theives at the office

After working at this job for 2 months, I decided to bring a picture of my son to put on my desk.  You see, he was in the Army for 10 years, and fought in Iraq for 15 months.  In this picture, he was in full uniform with all his medals.  When I got to the office this morning, I noticed the picture was gone.  What kind of person would do that to me???  The sad thing is that I'll probably never see that picture again  I don't think my son has anymore copies.frown  I know that there are many who've lost family to the war but....

That is deplorable!  Send an email to the entire department stating that you would appreciate it the person who borrowed your son's photo would return it to your desk.   angry

You'll get it back, I just know it...

They probably took the frame and ditched the photo.  Ask the janitorial staff to look for the picture when they're cleaning up tonight.  You should also do your own browse through the public garbage cans for it.  And let your boss know about the theft.  There may be a theft problem in your office or it might be a one-off thing.

Man, some people stoop to levels lower than I thought possible.

You are rightfully proud, and we, US citizens, are also proud of your son and thankful for his service.

Definitely put the word out to all who had access to your work area.  Let them know they (the bottom dwelling scumbags) can keep the frame, just return your photo.

A similar situation happened where I used to work.  Someone stole a silver frame, containing a picture of grandchildren, from a co-worker's desk.  The co-worker sent out an e-mail to the entire company saying that all she really wanted back was the photo of her grandchildren, the thief could keep the frame.  A few days later the frame and picture turned up back on the woman's desk.

BTW, thanks to your son for his service to our country and hope he is doing well!

If there is a cleaning crew, call the janitorial company and ask for assistance with the issue. They may have witnessed something when they came in that evening and may find the photo before you do. The cleaning crew can often be the eyes and ears around a building. Check with them. More often then not, they can be very helpful.
I urge you to file a police report since a lot of companies don't take this type of theft seriously and/or hush it up.  In the past year, various small objects have disappeared from people's desks here (silver pens, calculators, etc).  Only when two laptops were stolen in the middle of the day by an intruder did the company finally take notice.

I agree that this is a deplorable situation, however it's not at all uncommon.  I don't have anything at work that I would be brokenhearted to lose (I would still be mad as h-e-double hockey sticks, though).

The old days, when people were decent and honest in the work place, are gone.  Probably forever.

When you get your son's picture back, scan it and use it as your computer wallpaper.  You'll still get to see it all the time, and no one can take it from you.
