Polar Bears trophy hunting
HELP PLEASE!!!! https://community.hsus.org/humane/notice-description.tcl?newsletter_id=11020016 Canada in importing Polar Bears into the US, where trophy hunting is illegal, for the purpose of allowing some jerk with a gun to kill a Polar Bear and hang it's head on the wall. Each of you can help by simply logging onto In a world where we are not able to control much of what happens, this is an opportunity to make your voice heard. Thank you all so very much! tb
Pure unadulterated evil. And people think I'm weird for preferring the company of animals. I "signed" the letter and added a brief message of my own. Wish I could really believe it matters, but.....
TB, EEO and All, I posted on Current Events and I thank you for posting here also. Every time one more person makes his/her views known, it matters. Every single person who takes the minute or two to act matters more than he or she will ever know. Numbers count and in the absence of Big Money, it is all we have. Since none of us has a dime, we can do this and call when we can. You better believe this matters. When we persist, change happens. It always works and it always has.
tb:) Happy to do it. I also heard that there are some bills currently in Congress that seek to overturn current state statutes & legislation that protect horses from slaughter. I haven't looked into it yet. Last March I testified before a TX House committee--from the victim's perspective, on a bill proposing to allow judges to include protection for pets and service animals in domestic violence restraining orders. I was very upset upon learning that it wasn't passed. The committee was in favor or it, but it wasn't ultimately passed. Texas legislators are more concerned about the more urgent bills like proposed legislation that TX adopt nachos as the state snack. Certainly appreciate our tax dollars paying them to draft and debate bills like that, rather than the silly ones that would protect animals and people who love them. Please let me know the outcome when you hear. EEO and All, Do I have a site for your sore eyes, EEO. Check the HSUS site (www.hsus.org) and seek the link for horse slaughter. They have a pretty good compendium of legis activity there and you will dive right into that. Also, the ASPCA site is a good round up of legislation in the works. I also recall reading that this TX effort had been defeated on one of those sites but I am not sure of that so I will check when I can and get back to you. Equine Protection Network is good for all things equine related, of course and has many good alerts for stolen horses to look at. Dazed, you are correct. I was told that the Tx legislation was totally botched by the addition of various amendments. I bookmarked the site you suggest. I cannot fathom why anyone would abide the slaughter of horses, as wonderful and magnificent they are. However, since I currently volunteer at the shelter where my kitties are, I have seen many brought in that have been objects of cruel human abuse. A couple are blind, one young kitten was brought in last weekend with broken legs and other injuries. Someone had dropped it off in a grocery store parking lot. I have not heard, but they were afraid they would not be able to save it. It's a deplorable as some treat the elderly in this country. I receive notifications from the Texas Humane Legislation Network. tlhn.org, I believe. I was able to send the message - it's Friday, however. Hope it still matters!
Wow! I didn't know you volunteer at a shelter! I'm afraid that I would go home crying everyday and / or want to bring every animal home with me! My boyfriend has two gorgeous horses, and I could not imagine the hearts of those who are involved in slaughtering. You're right....the elderly are just as helpless as animals can be and these types of situations that involve violence, abuse and neglect enrage me to no end! I was forced to flee from the home of a friend with whom I was staying in Dallas after her 44 yr. old son got out of prison and talked about how he enjoys executing wild kitties and other animals. Out of concern for my safety, the welfare of my dog and 2 kitties I rescued while staying there, I moved in with a friend in Austin--had no other options. I was not allowed to keep my kitties in her house and had to surrender them to a shelter. It is no-kill and open where the cats have the run of the place. I've been going to visit them every Sat. and Sun. for months now. If I can ever get a job and my own place, I will get them back. Of course, there are others in the shelter I also want, but unlike most animal facilities, these cats are not caged. I would not have done that to my babies! I miss them dearly, but at least get to see them. They know who their mama is and run to greet me when they hear my voice! I learned a while ago that the kitty brought in last weekend did not make it. | |
