How Many and for How Long...vent
I just need to vent for a moment. I was told about last friday at work apparently there was a little tiff between a couple of co-workers:An operator, Q.A., and Relief Operator. Apparently the operator who was running the machine and parts in question, had caught the relief operator and the newly christened Q.A. tampering with the parts the man was assembling to be shipped. So that he would be written up and possibly let go for running bad parts. Not saying the operator does not make any mistakes, everyone does, just part of being human. Gentleman notified the supervisor on shift of the situation. These parts go to one of the big Japanese carmakers, and one that I used to travel to fix parts a long time ago. How many co-workers' work have they tampered with that do they do not like, and second how many contracts have we lost due to their actions and behavior? How long has this little duo been doing this? This is not the first time they have done this tampering deal or tell someone wrong way to do a job. It is common knowledge amongst the shift workers who have worked the same amount of time as these two or longer. It is really a sad situation, when maybe there was a good worker who was let go for a situation like up above because Relief Operator or Q.A., felt they did not fit into their little club or not up to their working standards. Yes, there are going ot be disagreements but to go to this level is very henious and preposterousness. If your in a position of authority and you know both sides, why does one have to lose a job. If your not in a position of authority, leave an unsigned note for someone who is in that postion. Explain the entire story briefly with the facts and don't discuss the personal issues you perceive.
Today you are in one door and out the other in a little while. Te union is not going to help you, so just look for another job.
I am just venting, it was not me, who this happend to, but a fellow co-worker. I just feel so sad and mad why on would two people do something like this, no one wins, we all lose. If the operator in question did want to or did not want to their job that is something that is totally up to the operator, not the relief operator.Just do the job the way it is supposed to be done the way they were trained and move on. Any who, the two in question feel threaten, or compedition by anyone, they will try to cut them out no matter how they do it. Especially the Relief Operator, when no one actually is out to do anything to them. This Relief Operator likes to start arguments or fight so to speak, so the "victim" role can be played by this person. If Relief Operator does not have someone to become the "bad guy/woman" then they are not happy. Again this is common knownledge in the company.
You have a point, union can do only so much. Time will only tell. The sad thing many here do not go to the union, when they have problems, most go to the managment. When I first started, I was told you have a problem go to the union not the company/management. This was per management of the company. But you will have those who forsake what they have been told, and go to management. Or if they think they can get ahead by doing something or telling on someone over something. These are the same people who voted in the union a couple of years ago. I don't think they totally get the concept of what of being in a union is.....really. There are reason why it is there, only they know why the voted one in, I can see a few reasons why. The automotive industry is having a hard time as it is, if people are not buying cars, the orders are not going to be there manufacter parts need to build an automobile. Just plain and simple not that complicated. Change is always going to happen and you can not stop that.
The protocol was followed for the situation above, but that does not stop these two from tampering with operators parts and also first shots another Q.A had issued on another shift for the run of the part.Hence forth getting the operator on their shift and those previous in trouble with possible write ups by company, when actually the people where doing as they were told and what was consider acceptable on a part by the Q.A. who start the production run. I was the one last Friday in a string of many who they do this to. We are to look at the first shot and go by that far as trimming. The two in question changed the first shot and left the first shift Q.A. signature on it, so it would look like if both 1st and 2nd shift messed up if it did not look like what they have done to the first shot. Also getting the 1st shift Q.A. in trouble as well. I guess they are mad at 1st, Q.A., and wanted to get back at her, but do not realize who also they are implicating when doing this type of behavior. I let the union know along with 1st Q.A., about the situation, who they were trying to get into trouble with Quality Supervisor. Apparently the Q.A. on my shift was reprimanded, sometime this month over same part. This is a union shop, but they can only do so much as well. It is like the company and the workers go two steps forward and for some reason, these two like to take the rest of us five steps backwards into the hole. I usually tell a union representive not the union steward, if I want anything done, union steward is too close to the R.O. and Q.A.,. Second I keep notes far as anything that goes on the machines that I run if there is a question on a part. If I have to I will let the supervisor know but union first if possible. NW, There is always, in every group, someone who plays games and always incites problems for everyone else. If you are new in that situation, quit now. If not, be aware that this sick little person will always play divide and conquer for personal gratification. They spend the day playing everyone against the other and then hope they can profit from it. I have seen these sickening people play this game in almost working environment I have ever observed. They are usually in management, BTW and rarely doing any work themselves. They are bad managers and know it, so they play. My best advice, when you find this kind of game, is to run out of there if possible. If not, avoid them. Don't be around them if you can help it. They live for games and goofing off and never do anything else. Worthless.
Dazed and Confused- Your point is very true to the word. Only these two are in the working ranks, but will report to the production manager if they feel something awry. I caught on to the "game" several years ago at a different workplace. Right now the afternoon shift we follow is being consider the "bad group" in which actually probably been told to do the parts as followed from management. The day shift is probably told something totally different than what we are told. There for creating chaos, and ill feelings amongst employees at times. Sad thing is the production manager is the one several weeks ago, pretty much said pack it to everything granted excluding bad shorts, etc.....,. Well that basically shot us in the foot so to speak with our customers. Back to the drawing board. Now the operators are the ones paying the price for this judgement. So the two "bulldogs" on my shift are on the "hunt" to find rogue operators who they feel are hurting company's chances. Or if someone has made a comment they do not appreciate etc...,. I try to do my very best to put out the best product to be shipped like my fellow co-workers. Yes we do make mistakes, we try not to but it does happen. So it is cya, best as possible. The one bulldog will even go through our scrap bins to see what we are throwing out and if there is any "evidence" of misconduct. Then to report to management of the alleged bad behavior I or any of my fellow co-workers have done. Sometimes it is weeks before we run a part that we would run today, again, operators tend to sometimes to forget, by honest mistake, not intentional. Most are like me, who just want to clock in do our job and clock out and go home. Contact your immediate supervisor/amanger IMMEDIATELY with your concerns. If those parts are sent to a car manufacturer and is installed on a vehicle that happens to kill someone, your company can be sued big time. They can track down every little part that was put onto that vehicle and it can be traced right down to the person who manufacturered it, inspected it, packed it, shipped it and onto to the exact day it was delivered to the assembly plant. Then the common denominator will be found. An employee list will be made and it will show which employees had a hand on that part that caused the death. I am surprised your manager has not discovered these shady employees. Maybe your manager is afraid of wrongful termination if these clowns were fired because he/she does not have enough evidence to prove they were tampering with parts. | |
