Lost 2 jobs in 3 months

Hi,

I have lost 2 jobs in 3 months. The first one was not my fault. They only gave me 2 weeks. I have some learning disabilites and it seems like they just were not willing to deal with me. The 2nd job, was somewhat my fault. They gave me 2 months to learn the job, but I made too many mistakes(1 big one, which I can't prove whether I was actually set up). My problem is I have no good work history to show in 2007. Up until this year, I have had a steady work history. What would you do in this situation?

You should sit down with a counselor or therpist and specifically discuss what sorts of jobs you're well suited for.  Employers are not going to make a lot of allowances for you.  You need to find something you fit into properly so that they don't have to.

If you don't have a therapist, ask your doctor for a referral.  You could also try a career counselor.  Your local community college probably has one.  If not, call your local United Way and ask which local agency does job counseling.  Salvation Army does quite a bit of this but other groups do too.

Good luck!

If you have disabilities that are keeping you from keeping a job you might call the Dept. of Vocational Rehabilitation.  I used their services years ago and they are very good about helping people obtain new skills and training after giving you a battery of psych. and related tests. It was a positive exp. for me.  Look in the phone book under the State agencies or call the local employment office.  If V.R. Takes you as a client it doesn't cost you anything.
I am on the list for the DVR, but I am on 2nd priority. They have 3 different priority levels based on how disabled you are.  I have been on this list before and I used to be priority #1.  They said it will be a year b4 I get any help, at least. The DVR is a joke!

"My problem is I have no good work history to show in 2007. Up until this year, I have had a steady work history."

This sounds a little strange.  Since you had a steady work history up until this year, what has changed specifically?  What types of jobs did you have up until 2007 which were evidently better for you?  Why don't you try to get similar employment now?

The reason for your problems could be easily solved if you are looking for the wrong types of jobs for you and are making bad choices.  Not everybody is cut out to do anything he or she wants to do as far as a career is concerned!

Tess is right.  You need vocational counseling and testing.  Please call your local crisis center (they are in or around every major city or town) and ask for referrals to testing and evaluation places.

I am sorry to hear that as I had an OK exp. with V.R. Perhaps you will get what you need way before another year goes by.

You lucky it was only 2 jobs in 3 months. It could have been like 3 jobs in 3 months or even like a job every week for the past 3 months, or even worse too. Just keep your chin up and look for other jobs.

Here is something that might make you feel a little better. When our President winked at the Queen of England, the Queen just kept a 'stiff upper lip' through the whole ordeal. :)
