Thinking of Changing JobsI was in my previous position for almost 3 years. But it got to the point where there was nothing left to learn and I had been doing the same thing, running the same reports, and managing the same projects during my time there. So I felt that I had to get out, as I was suffering from boredom and I felt as I was not being utilized to my full potential. So I recently made a lateral move within my company to get a change of scenery. This new position has turned out to be a lot more work than I expected with sometimes longer hours. The kicker here is that my new boss seemed so high on me before I decided to make the move to come over to her department. And now that I am here, everyone in this department seems like they are ignoring me and I just feel as if I do not belong. Other people I have talked to around the company said it was a good move, but I am beginning to think otherwise and feel like they are just giving me the policitically correct opinion. Coincidentally, after I left my previous department, everyone over there and their mothers got a promotion. So right now, I am feeling a little slighted, betrayed, and unwanted. Right now, I just feel as if my new boss somehow has it out for me, as I get slammed for every mundane detail while I feel that I have done about as good a job as I could have with regards to the work that I took over from the previous employee in this position without them skipping a beat. I have only been in this position for a little over 3 months, but I already want out. Should I try and stick it out a few more, or should I start looking at other opportunities outside the company? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! You're a newbie in that department, and as such, you will get the more mundane jobs and you will be expected to work more hours. It's part of paying your dues and proving yourself to your new department. You've been there 3 months, so it should be easing up in the near future. If it doesn't, take an unemotional, critical look at what kind of jobs you're doing, what others in your department are doing, if they're also working longer hours, etc. You can talk to your boss and say that the job is not what you expected it to be and see if things can be rearranged more to what you want, but don't count on that happening. Your employer is not there to make your life easier, you are there to do the work your employer wants done. On the other hand, it never hurts to look around. Go ahead and start networking and sending your resume out. You might find something better. WB | |
