Anyone heard of CoStar Group

I recently finished interviewing with a company called "CoStar Group".  They have offices throughout the U.S. and they claim to be the largest commercial real estate listing company in the country.

I sent in a resume, then did a telephone interview.  I was told that I would hear from someone in 2-3 weeks. I heard nothing and called them.  They told me that the woman who interviewed me by phone, had left the company and that my file had been misplaced.  I did a second telephone interview, waited to hear from them, heard nothing for 3 weeks, then I called them back.  They told me that the second woman who gave me the second telephone interview, had also just left the company.  This was 2 separate women, gone, in about 6 weeks.

This seemed a bit strange to me, but I pressed on.

I tried a third time and actually got to have a face-to-face interview with one of their representatives.  I inquired as to whether I would be doing any sales in this job and she told me I would not; that I would be updating real estate listings for their clients, that's all.  However, she later told me I would have to make a quota of 60 phone calls per day and I would get a bonus if I made more.

I asked her about their training and she told me that they had just lost some good employees recently, after they had completed their training.  I asked why and she told me that during the training period, the employees trained for one task, but then, after training was completed, they found out they would be doing "something else" for the company, and many didn't want to stay with the company.  She would not tell me what the "something else" was.

Does this make sense? Do people train for one job, and then have the company shift gears after the training period has just ended?

I have spoken to my friends and they think that something is strange with this company; that they are really engaged in sales / telemarketing, but are not telling anyone during the interview process.

I found out from one of their newest employees, that this particular CoStar Group office I dealt with, did not have a permanent HR leader or HR department, for that matter.  He told me that the employees take turns sifting through incoming resumes, in their spare time and during lunch breaks.

Does this make any sense for a national company that is listed on the stock market?

Does anyone know anything about CoStar Group (good or bad), their hiring practices, and how they function?

Thanks in advance!

Adreed,

Yes, I have heard of them. They do list comm real estate and they do contact prospective customers for listings. Other then that, I can't tell you about their employment practices.

It could be that some of the churn of staff is due to the tough real estate market. There is a ton of competition in that field and when times get challenging, workers get burnt more often.

If you want, you might be able to access limited company information on Vault.com and some other business sites, like Hoover's. Be aware that if you want the detailed reports, there is a charge involved.

You might want to try posting on scam.com about these people. Though, in all honesty, I'd be leery of working for any organization that lost my resume twice. Just think of what they would do with your pay check.

Based on what you were told about their so-called training program, I would not be interested!
