Ugh! How many interviews is enough

angry Hello everyone,

I really need to vent right now. Can someone please tell me if they have been in a similar situation? I interviewed for this company. Ok the first interview was very positive. They raved about my resume saying how impressed they were and someone would be calling me from Human Resources. Ok interview number 2 with two more people (mind you there are only 4 people that are going to be in the office) and I am getting excited. I am thinking positive. The other 2 people rave and tell me how impressed they are with my skills and experience. So I go home thinking "hey I think they really liked me". Ok so they call me again and say that the other two people want to meet me as well so me being as flexible as I am say of course because hey, I want the job and I think this position is the right fit for me. So I go on the third interview and left with them saying we will be contacting you very very soon. Ok...that was Wednesday of last week.

I am to the point where I want to say "forget this". I know I should stay positive but don't you get to a point where get tired of being stringed along like puppet? I know I should not think of it that way but it gets really really frustrating to hear them say "we will be contacting you very very soon" and you don't hear anything else from them.

Sorry...I had to vent!

There is no right or wrong number of times one should go to inteviews. If you have one to schedule then just schedule it and go. If not for anything else you gain a little more experience in interviewing. Like any job, the more you interview then the better you get - and sooner or later you'll strike gold. One time I went 5 times to interview at this place and each time I thought these people really liked me and I had a job. However, there was no 6th time, as they selected another person for the job. frown

Been there...done that...hang in there!

It's very frustrating to interview because there's no "magic number" of interviews before you find "The One". Sometimes it's the first interview, sometimes it's the 50th.

Even though you want to maximize your chances by interviewing well, having a great resume and cover letter, network, and so on...there is an element of luck involved! So don't think it's all about you...it often isn't.

Besides, do you really have any other options except to keep trying?

Thanks for the comments...

I definitely understand that there are more jobs out there and of course I am not a quitter and I will keep trying until I land a position that I feel is right for me. I think someone mentioned before that this is just a "venting" thread in which I thought it was a place where people can just vent their frustrations. I am aware that there are no right or wrong number of interviews in a job and I am also aware that there is no guarantee that because you go on so many interviews for one job that you are going to get it.

I am just venting my frustrations...that is all. All the comments are appreciated but I really wasn't looking for answers to my comments...just maybe someone else is going through the same thing and can sympathize. I have over 20 years experience in my field and have been on many many interviews. I already the answers to my situation. I am just merely venting. wink

I hear you, girl.  After a while you just get tired of being jerked around.  This happened to me a long time ago, and I was getting ready to call the company and tell them I wasn't interested in the job any more when they called me and offered the job.  The boss had been out of the country and just returned, and told HR to make the offer.  It turned out to be a great job, and the boss was great, too.

Hope you hear something definite soon.
