Another example of complete idiocy.
I just finished 36 hours ( over six days ) working a temp job. Today I just applied to an upscale technology conglomerate sales and service outlet. They posted a listing on a job-website with an e-mail address. No problem. I send in both my resume' and cover letter, using the standard greeting of me, the fact that I'm looking for work and the recent work experience I have to offer as proof I can do a good job, whatever that may be. Being the idiot this employer is, the initial response is of course a familiar one. What job position are you looking for? Go to our website and choose one. What? Wait a minute. Why would you post a general decriptive listing on a job site asking for people to respond, and when someone like me comes along, the first response you give is to go to your stupid and flimsy website ( which wasn't all that appealing to see ) and deal with registration sign-up nonsense? Stupidity again and again and again. My response was formal yet just about anyone could probably tell the writing reads of aggitation : You placed an advertisement on ******.com which I thought it logical to send you a resume' and cover letter which would be more efficient and expidite the process towards an interview opportunity. I so desperately wanted to simply call this guy out as the pea-brained idiot I accuse him of being. But just the same, I thought that kind of a response was right where it needed to be, just up to the professional line without crossing over. Listen. If you're trying to look for employees, but you don't want anyone to send you any resumes and cover letters directly. If you want them all to weave their way through some stupid website and register for jobs you may never actually give them. The best thing to do is place the ad, and in the body of the space for advertising writing, just put a link. A link to your website. Case closed. This guy didn't do that, however. Which is why I call him an ape.
Hey XT, Good to see you back. How's it hang'in? You seem to be laboring under the misapprihension that the InHuman Resource chuckleheads have any idea what they are doing. They don't. You have to tell them which job req they should submit you for, because they can't figure it out. If they knew anything, they wouldn't be working as IHR hickoryHeads.
Oddly enough you are right. If they want you to apply through their website they should supply the link in their posting.
Yes, there should have been a link, but doesn't everyone make mistakes? So then everyone, including you, must be an ape. :) Seriously, when you send a general resume and letter to an employer as you did, what do you expect them to say? I would think what he said was pretty accurate. I would want to know what type of job you were applying for too. Makes sense. Making a mountain out of a mole hill on this one.
If you're familiar with technology sales and service outlets like Comp USA, this was one of them, but the name is more regionally familiar with the state where it is and I live in - Massachusetts. I take it they, like most like most who are like them pride themselves on having a high-end website with loads of content, and if someone's interested in applying to work, you should naturally do it on the website. No phone calls, text messages, faxes or even e-mail attachments. If they want everything trafficking through the online network, they should have just put out a link. As I said, they didn't do that, they wrote a standard calling all job applicants while leaving an e-mail address to resond to. Some employers are smart enough to be consistent. ( which doesn't happen all that often )
As I told penguinface, Some employers are consistent, listing only a link without leaving an e-mail address to respond to. Those I readily avoid only looking for advertisements I can e-mail back to. It make the most sense to leave e-mail addresses to the individuals working in the department that's evaluating people for an open position(s). It's called expediting the process. If you try to hurd people like cattle to a website that can rotinely break down, lock up, or time out is a hassle ontop of another hassle spending unnecessary time checking boxes or asking useless questions for information that has nothing to do with a current job someone's interested in applying for.
