can anyone helpI was wondering if anyone else has had this feeling b4. I was out of work for a while a long while to tell the truth. I applied for a job today got the interview, offered the job $14 an hour, took the drug test, filled out the W2. Effectively got the job in the course of 3 hours, sounds #### doesn' t it. But the feelings aren' t of joy but almost sick to my stomach. I worked in cable TV for about 6 1/2 years good job but i was hoping to move to something else different but here we go again. I don' t know if its disappointment in myself for going back in that field or just in shock for how quick the process went. I' m happy to get back to work but I should be jumping for joy right? instead I' m sitting here w/ knots in my belly about the whole thing. Can anyone help? I understand you not wanting to go back into the field you left. Yes, it can cause great anxiety to know you are back to doing something you wanted to get away from. Do what you have to do to keep the paychecks coming in. You have to live, right? Meanwhile, keep your other skills honed and keep sending out that resume. It may be a little more difficult, time-wise, to find a new career, but the old adage of "it's easier to find a job when you've already got a job" is an old adage for good reason -- it's true! Use this time in this job to get yourself ready for the next job. Think of it as a stepping stone. Enroll yourself right away in a basic English course at your local community college. If your math is as poor as your spelling and grammar, then do that too. Community college is inexpensive, you might be able to get grants and loans and they offer night and sometimes even weekend classes. Completing something like that and improving your basic skills is going to make you so much more employable. Then see the career center at the college and get help with your resume. Talk to a career counselor about your interests. See if there' s a different career that you might like better and if you need training, then get it. Believe me, having a plan can make a job you don' t like much really bearable while you pay your rent. This guy at work drives an old Valiant and it stills seems to run trouble free. At any rate, try to find out why you got them knots in your stomach. Sometimes you have to work a little in jobs you don' t like, and so maybe this is just one of those jobs. Save some money and keep your eyes open for some new opportunities in the field you want to be in. Maybe he ate some rope. I think getting a job without a lot of interviews, background checks and other nonsense is a good thing. Well, first of all...sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do to survive. Sometimes you have to remind yourself that it' s just a job. And next, just because you had a lousy experience last time doesn' t necessarily mean that the past will repeat itself. Time has an interesting way of changing things. If it' s a different company, different co-workers, changes in technology, a bad boss who' s moved on--there can be a million ways things are different this time around. Have some hope--many times what we most fear never comes to pass. You' re so right! Getting a job without all the unnecessary extra baloney is a great thing. The knots in the belly are completely normal. It' s called "new job anxiety." | |
