Advice Needed
A month ago i got called for a job oppurtunity by a recruiter for a company. He gave my resume to the manager and he called me back almost immediatly and said they wanted to interview with me. When I went in for the interview the manager and the recruiter both sat in the interview and I felt it went good. The recruiter (who most likely was doing his job really well or really shady) rolled out the red carpet took me out to dinner, ball game in a suite, etc. they told me they would have a decision soon. the next week the recruiter emailed me and said he talked to the manager and said he said he was very impressed with me and it was looking good and that the manager would have a decision in a day. He also added that either way he would call me and tell me about my standing. a week went by and i heard nothing, however b/c he said to call or email him at anytime with anything i needed, i felt comfortable enough to email him and professionally ask him what was going on. he responded and gave me a respectable reason and it made me feel better. well another week went by and i decided to email him again, he responded again with a respectable reason. another week the same process. im in my 4th week of these goings on and im tired of following up without any results. im not sure what to do trust that he will get back to me even though he hasn't or keep following up. i also dont want to look desperate or anger him and hurt my chances (if there is still any). I'll take any of the advice i can get and thanks in advance
When the recruiter gives respectable reasons, the only option you have is to keep inquiring about the status and also, if they can keep you updated and possibly inform you when it is likely they will reach a decision. That is not desperate, but natural because you want the job. The way you ask makes the difference, I would choose a mixture of respectful yet determined in a relaxed manner. You also might tell the recruiter that it makes you feel uncomfortable to keep asking about it, although you understand the procedure takes time. In another thread there was a discussion about asynchronous hiring practices of HR and hiring managers, might that cause the delay? Apart from that, I wouldn' t gamble only on one job and want to have several options, to keep searching. To begin with you are getting responses from the recruiter. Okay so the pace isn't moving as quickly as you would like. Any number of things could be going on - the recruiter is at the whim of the client. The position could be on hold for any number of reasons - at the same time that hold could be taken off at any moment. I would send a weekly emaily for a while longer until you get a reponse on a final status of the position. Also, it sounds as if you have some "bond" with the recruiter have you spoken with him personally, schedule a lunch if possible to get a status report in person. Emails don't give a true tone of what the person is saying. | |
