Career Tips

So tired of politics andamp; bad bosses!

A place to vent - hooray!

I've worked at so many lousy jobs that I'm starting to think that I just want to be a hermit!  I've suffered through some major depression due to awful people at work.  I've tried working health care hoping that it would be a more caring environment but was treated like dirt (i.e. when I told my boss that I was pregnant, she tried EVERYTHING in the book to get me to leave, humilation, lying, etc....it worked because it wasn't worth it).

So where does someone like me go now? Someone with a heart that just wants to be treated decently?

Thanks for listening.

I agree with you, the life of a hermit is almost as desirable as Paris Hilton' s money in my bank account.

My advice - and my opinions...and what I have learned and told myself every day upon discovering:

1. Toughen up - this is work, not the school yard.  These people at your work place do not have to be your friends; they are your coworkers.  No one said their opinions / ideas / perceptions of you are correct, accurate or gospel.

2.  You DON' T have to like everyone you work with, and all those baloney books that tell you you should adapt yourself and have a squishy, permanently and almost medicated happy, malleable personality to mold to every jacka$$ personality in the workplace are just selling books to management.

3. Be courteous, respectful, honest - but don' t be a doormat.  Be assertive, not aggressive.

4. Don' t let other peoples' slovenly work habits affect yours. Continue to be detail-oriented, precise, driven, and an excellent employee despite adversity.

I' ll get back to you if I think of more.

I don' t think there' s much of a future in the hermit career field.  I doesn' t pay well and you' re almost certain to work exclusively with a jerk.

Remember the line in in "The Outlaw Josey Wales"?

"Man' s gotta make a living somehow."

"Die' in' s not much of a living..."
