HR being useless, a H.M.s perspective

Well, in case you' re wondering if the Hiring Manager can be the one to blame, and NOT H.R....think again, here' s an account of a manager, where an applicant got a hold of the manager (networking?), by bypassing Human Resources.....guess what....the Hiring manager was required to CREATE a NEW position...but...in order to create a NEW position guess who has to have to go through?

IHR....

And guess how long this process can take?....well, let' s see this:

Not sure I agree with this... Maybe our HR department was particularly pathetic, but as a manager, I can remember Really wanting a candidate...and HR screwing around forever before finally calling with an offer.... Sometimes my boss, who was a VP would have to get involved to get the ball moving... We were not allowed to extend offers, only HR could, and they just sat on things... Wow, I can feel my blood pressure rising just thinking about this topic...

THEY, the HIRING MANAGERS are NOT ALLOWED to extend offers....ONLY HR.

HR is the "muscle" of organizations, they have TOO Much power

Here is another account:

HR is a pain in the ass. I' m in a situation right now, where I found a computer company back in Texas that I would like to work for. They have a specialized group that does exactly the same kind of work that I' m doing now, using the same type of software.

Instead of trying to go through the company website, or go through HR,I found the name of a manager in the group, and emailed him directly. From that, I was able to do a phone interview with him, and anotherphone interview with his boss. They were especially impressed as to howI went about contacting them (googling a name of the web), and myinterest in their group and willingness to relocate.

So now I' m waiting for the next step. The only problem is that the manager has to submit a request to HR to approve creating a new position. They filed their paperwork, so now its up to HR. The director that I interviewed with told me that this process can take to any where from 2 weeks, to 3 MONTHS. From there, if all of that works out, then I would fly down to Texas to meet the group and have a face to face interview.

Waiting on HR is an awful experience.

"So now it' s up to IHR"....Need I say more??

Yes, indeed, it' s few and far between though that you get a good trooper in HR or Recruitment. For example, a recent recruiter I worked with shocked the heck out of me,  somewhere on these Monster Boards I gave an example how she even had re-written my resume, sent it back to me to look at and THEN submit it to the hiring managers, even gave me documents on how to be a good interviewee and the like.

Talk about above and BEYOND the call of duty here.  This recruiter should set an example for all recruiters and H.R. persons.
