Unable to receive start date. One month ago I was interviewed for a position, which I was told two days later that I had the job. I was told that the existing individual had put their two week notice in and that my start date would be March 19. They asked if I could come in and fill out any necessary paperwork, which I was given a signed document of my start date. I received a call the Friday before my start date and was told that I won't be starting on the 19th, due to paperwork that has not been completed. I was told that this will be resolved and expect to start during the same week. That week passed, which I was then told on that Friday that my start will be March 27 or 28. Then on Tuesday I received yet another call stating that all of the paperwork has been completed and the codes have been entered. Which they then confirmed that April 2 would be my start date. Once again I received a call stating that my start date won't be April 2, but look towards April 3. Well it's April 3 and I'm still not working and have received no word on when my start date will be. Throughout this time I have continually been informed that the job is still mine. At first I stopped sending out my resume, but started once again even though I feel uncomfortable since I'm supposed to be starting a job. I'm trying to stay optimistic about this, but the bs is getting tiring. You might want to keep sending out resumes and getting interviews. Either the person you were to replace changed his/her mind and is staying or the company has changed their mind about replacing this individual. (They may have decided to spread this person's duties among those who are already employed there.) Either way, it looks like you are being jerked around and it's time to move on. Keep on calling and asking every few days, however, until you get a definite answer. It's stories like this that make me want to throw my computer keyboard across the room. I wonder what kind of "HR Response" to this post will say. I don' t see what your complaining about. You' re incorrect, you have received a start date. In fact, you' ve had five of them! A lot of folks can' t even get one start date.
I guess you got a point NewShopper. I wonder how many more I can pull off before the end of the month. If I bug them every day, I should get at least two a week.
Hey, this inspired me to tell a joke. "How many HR employees does it take to write a rejection letter?" Answer: None, because they just don't do it. lol. This reminds me of another joke: A guy finds what looks like an old lamp on a beach. He rubs it and out pops a genie. The genie says' "I'm having a bad day today, so you get only one wish. Make it a beauty!" The man answers, "OK. I hate to fly, so build me a bridge to Hawaii so I can drive there." The genie, incredulous, responds, "That is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard. Do you have any idea how much concrete it would take? You would need thousands of columns to support it, each several miles tall. Don't forget about all the restaurants, hotels and gas stations you would need to tide you over during the days-long drive. For goodness sake, come up with something else!" The man thinks and says, "OK, help me understand the job hunt. Why do employers advertise positions that aren't really available? Why do they demand total respect but offer none in return? Why do they insist on your salary requirements, but are totally unwilling to disclose their range? Why do they keep you waiting for a decision?" The genie rolls his eyes, sighs, and says, "Would you like that bridge to be two lanes or four?" I guess we can' t blame them. Most of them think they own the company. Speaking of getting screwed over. I received 2 emails from different recruiters regarding positions that I very much would like to have. Problem is, both positions are referencing very well known companies in which they don' t appear to have offices in the cities that the recruiters are referencing. The referenced positions are dealing with Network Administration, which there is no way that these positions will be in any office other then what is mentioned on the company' s website. Example of what I' m talking about. The one position has to do with a top automotive manufacturer. The only businesses they have in the referenced cities, not to mention state, are dealerships. Granted there' s the possibility that I don' t know what I' m talking about, and could just be paranoia kicking in. But I have heard that recruitment companies will post bogus jobs just to draw people towards them. If this is the case, how would I go about in determining whether these jobs are legit or bogus? If they are bogus, which they probably are, is there anyway of reporting them? I can' t see this being legal. They do what they wanna do,without any regard to you or anyone So....what's the story on your so called "start date" right now?? | |
