A PROBLEM

I am new here, so I would first like to say hello to everyone. I need new creative suggestions that I can use to try and get a job to give you a quick background myself. I live in Michigan, I am 27, graduated last year with a MBA. I haven' t worked in three years because I was raising a family. Although I was going to school while pregnant, I didn' t do any internships. I have worked in accounting, accounts payable, customer service and an account service representative for a marketing distribution company.

Problem: I have been looking for a job since October 2006, I have sent literally hundreds of resumes and received too many to count rejection notices. I have spoke with HR personnel and this is what they told me. I have a lot of education and little experience, so I would have to start off at entry level, which is o.k.. However, when I apply for a job with minimal experience and minimal education they say I am over qualified. When I apply for a job with a lot of education I tend to miss out on the experience, therefore they said I am under qualified. I recently volunteered at a hospital to try and gain experience to match my education. I even contacted everyone I knew to see if they company had any openings, It just hasn' t been working out.

Question: Do you have any suggestions on what I can do or what roads I can take to get started in the workforce again?

Why,

I am sorry to say that the only thing I know to be effective is persistence. Job seeking is frustrating and often disappointing. The employment market is very spotty in many areas and the competition for every job posting is extreme. With mass layoffs still happening I have no idea when we will see a change in the economy and hence, hiring.

Your experience is not unusual and you seem to be a quite bright and able candidate. I would encourage you to keep the effort up. Many posters are in the same boat.

Try non-profits.  They are usually more willing to overlook lack of experience since in turn they tend to have lower salaries.  Look at smaller companies.  Talk to your school' s career center for job postings as well as help with your resume.

I just contacted my school career center last Friday, so hopefully a door should open up for me soon.

What kind of job are you looking for?  What was your undergrad degree?

Generally, I'd look for the same job I would have without the MBA.

My undergrad is in Management & Organizational Development

MBA with a concetration in International Business.

Michigan is in a pretty bad spot now.
