Degree in Mythological Studies

I saw this profile of a woman who apparently is a professor at a college, I can't see anything else you could do with such a degree.  I thought I heard them all.

Maybe I should have continued education in those "fun" degrees you can't get actual jobs in, and get  a college teaching job.

What is "fun" about it? She teaches about this form of Lit, so she has a job. What is your complaint about her field?

She makes her 75 grand a year, so don' worry about it.

Well, someone has to teach Mythological Studies at college, right?

And, quite honestly, I'd LOVE that job...!

Heck, I'd love a job like that too, teaching about the God of War, Godess of Love......

Didn't think it existed to be honest, sounds like something the university  just made up. lol.  Definately one of those courses you can sign up for as an elective and get an easy "A" in it.

I figured if you got a degree in Mythological studies, it would only be useful about a major like that, would be ot teach it at a college, that is if such a thing was TAUGHT at the college.  Definately one of those rare positions.

Like schools have plenty of english, math and science teacher positions, but if you wanted to be an Art teacher (in highschools there is only ONE art teacher that's been there forever, thus no opening at the school, and I guess the same could be said for college university.

I had a friend that majored in Sociology, and he said he got VERY lucky because that type of subject is taught by a very limited staff.  His timing was right becuase someone was retiring after around 30 years.

When I first talked to what he was majoring his Master's in...he said Sociology and I thought (yeah good luck getting a job with that...by the way he's a pot smoker, there's someone who is attempting to "Skate" through college...... figured someone under the influence of pot could handle the simple classes, I just assumed he was a slacker because of his pot-smoking lifestyle) He says he's an adjunct though.

What a cool field of study!  I missed that one in University when I was skating through.

As for Sociology, believe it or not there are any number of fields that you can go into with a foundation in Sociology.  I have to go back for some course in Sociology, Anthropology, and Behavior Science before starting my Ph.D this year.  Although I took a number of them during my university days the fields have grown and changed so I need refreashers.

Joseph Campbell seems to have made a career out of it.

Yeah , and don' t forget Doctor Daniel Jackson

Nice SG-1 reference! (OK, and I think he's a babe, too!)

This may sound paradoxal.

Hiring a teacher, to teach impractical courses.  But how was it impractical, if she has a great job teaching it to other students?

But, yet, it was useful in this case to the teacher who also took impractical classes in mythological studies.

Seems like the only thing that field is good for is TEACHING it, wether it be as a tour guide at a museum, or a college prof.

An individual would have to be lucky enough to

1. Have a University that even has positions for specific and unusual and " off-the-wall"  fields such as Mythological studies.
2. They would have to be lucky enough to find the right timing to fall into such a position that is probably hardly ever available.

Of course, there' s plenty of positions for teaching math, science, engilsh, etc.

But Mythological studies?  Hmmm.  What are the odds of landing that teaching job?  In High school, there' s only ONE art teacher.

Sometimes, I wonder if Universities are grabbing at straws , and just making up classes like "Astrological Signs" or " Holistic Healing" majors. lol  I bet parents go ape, when they find out their kid is taking such courses, esp, sense some of these parents are spending their good hard earned money on such courses that aren' t all that practical and cannot earn you a living.

Sometimes I ask people what their majors are, and I Hears some off the wall major I never heard off, and I just ask, "So what kind of job can you get with that?"  They better say teaching said subject, that' s all I can say.

I used to think Psychology was one of those types of majors, but I' m finding out you can get jobs as a school counselor or work for the govt as a health counselor.

It' s just some students, who want to skate and "party down" take the easy courses. "Far out dude...a major that' s for SURFERS!"
