Employer in Financial TroubleI've been working for a company that is in some serious financial trouble as Marketing Director for over 2 years now. When I arrived the problems were present but kept quiet. Over the past year we've lost 3 key administrative staff members and various other staff members. We are also in the process of selling off part of the company to basically keep us alive a little longer but that has gone through yet. As Marketing Director I fear that this outcome will jeopordize my future in this field not to mention my current job situation even though the problems plaguing the company were present long before my arrival at the company. As it stands now nobody is talking about the actual financial sitation. The owner is not communicating and many staff members are coming to me wondering what's going to happen and I don't even know. My question here is, should I tell them to jump ship before they drown and should I do the same? Don't confirm or deny anything when employees come to you for answers - because, as you've said - you really don't know. Should you jump? Based on what you've said here - yes. Everyone for themselves in this case. When the company where I worked started laying off people, my boss came to me and said "I can't tell you whether you're in line to be laid off. All I can tell you is that you need to do what is best for your family." I think the same applies here. If you or other employees are fearful about losing their jobs, they should look out for themselves and their families. There's nothing wrong with that. | |
