Was Fired in Dec. and Im still Une...

I' m a hard worker, never been fired from a job ever. I am always the one looking for ways to improve myself. This company screwed me over in so many ways it' s not funny. I have been searching daily for job in the Las Vegas area. What do I come up with? Jobs that pay $7.00 an hour. Then the jobs that pay more are great and I interview for them but never get the job!? I have a lot of administrative experience it' s insane. I have a great personality, I dress the party and all. And still nothing. I look on here, Careerbuilder.com and all I see is Appleone and Ultimate Staffing...I' m not much into these staffing companies. I was working with one not to long ago and it seemed as though they were wasting my time. They didn' t have jobs that actually paid what they said they did and these jobs were in the really bad parts of Vegas where you don' t go if you' re a 23 year old female.

I' m frustrated. I' ve got bills. Creditors are harrassing me right now. Luckily I live with my fiance we are sliding by, but I need a job. I can tell he' s frustrated with me not having one considering he goes to work Monday-Friday working day shifts and graveyards (the company switches it up all the time). I don' t want him to think I' m sliding by with not working, or taking advantage of it. I REALLY am looking and I send out resumes daily to reputable companies, and I get replies from "at-home-jobs" or people from Spain. I' m so frustrated and don' t know what to do!!!

You're not alone.

However, you'll need to remember that for the most part, employers don't care about your personal financial problems. With the job market as it is, you're less likely to be able to move into a position in which you have no previous experience.

I haven't been to Vegas, but I'm not sure what part of any city isn't suitable for a 23 year old female to work an administrative job. Is there something special about that city, like you have to walk through 4 blocks of drug turf on your way to a job collecting bags of money every day?

If you haven't done so already, have other administrative professionals review your resume for advice. When you're reading job listings, incorporate any buzzwords and terminology you can into your resume. Employers equate those buzzwords with competence (and seniority with experience), whether or not you're actually any good at anything.

There are four parts of Las Vegas...Henderson, really expensive part of town, North Las Vegas...was the ghetto part but now is turning around for the better, Central Las Vegas...drugs, shootings, etc. A few years back I was walking down the street to an AM/PM and got pulled over by the cops...for walking because they thought I was a prostitute...I was wearing Jeans and a tank top. lol Then there' s Downtown Las Vegas which is worse then Central Las Vegas. I am trying to get into the nicer parts of Vegas so I don' t have to worry nearly as much. I' ve had people follow me home all the way into the apartment complex...so I' m careful about where I work.

I will have another administrative professional take a look at my resume. Maybe there is something I can do to make it better.

You need to do a very hard thing here----RELAX!!!  I was fired from a job 1 year 2 months ago--IT DEVASTATED ME!!!  There are soooo many emotions that go with being fired--plus the reality of NOT having the cash flow you once did----I remember this VERY well and, BELIEVE ME, I will not soon forget it........I did get another job---it took a while and A LOT of hard work but I did it--just like you will!!

I actually learned a lot from being fired--I learned about EXACTLY what I do not want in my work life--I learned that the rules and the consequences should be the same for everyone---and, if they are NOT, I am GONE.  I learned that I should be treated like a valuable member of a team.  Being fired forced me to move onto other opportunitys---since I KNEW I did not want to work in the particular field I was in---I did NOT want to go back---so I didn' t and it is their loss!!!

It was tough but I made it.  I cryed daily--I went through the horrible feelings and thoughts----I made it though.  You WILL make it too!!!  Work on the resume---get out there and pound the pavement.......Finding a job is now your full time position---and you WILL find one---I have been right where you are.........You will make it through this!!!!!

My company has offices in Las Vegas.  I happen to know that it is quite hard to get good employees since there is so much quick money to made in casino related jobs.

My recommendation is to either - look at casino related jobs or

Scour the want ads and webpages of every major employer in Las Vegas.  You should be able to find something.  I happen to know that BofA and Wells Fargo and other similar companies are always hiring entry-level staff.
