Ran out of Unemployment and still cant.....find a job. Anyone at this point where their funds will start being affected, and you feel the noose of poverty start to cynch in? If you haven' t already started looking for help, do it now. Call the Salvation Army, the United Way, your church, and local government help agencies and find out what help is available to you. Some agencies help out with heat during the winter, some have food pantries, some have networking opportunities - but it' s up to you to find them. If you owe money, call your creditors and explain your situation. Some will be reasonable and work with you on repayment. If you' re paying a mortgage, CALL THEM TODAY. The longer you delay (and miss your payments) the worse your credit rating will be when you get back on your feet. Move to less expensive housing, or get a room mate. Sell off some possessions, either with a yard sale, a newspaper classified ad, or online. Go to the mall and apply at all the stores. Same for every retail area you can find. Some money is better than no money. There' s an old saying: The Lord helps those who help themselves. You have to show yourself worth of divine help by busting your butt. Last time I checked, the Lord did not create capitalism, mortgages, modern day serfdom via credit cards. He just created the monkeys that created those systems.
But the poster is right, you need to get off your duff and do something before your ability to choose is removed from you and you are living on the street. Exactly I accuse God of creating "capitalism, morgages, modern day serfdom via credit cards"? To prevent sounding like an idiot, I suggest you actually READ the posts before you reply. Well, I have a few job prospects left (for real better paying jobs), so we'll see what happens there, I have an interview today as well, so I'm getting off my duff for that, lol...got an hour drive, so my duff is going to be ina car seat for an hour, then my duff will be in the "hot seat" in front of the employers, lol......., so I'm praying. If those all fall through, I know Office Depot is hiring...so I'm good with computers. I assure the only idiot is one that lays everything at God' s feet to fix. Everytime I hear that claptrap I can' t help but get an image of George Burns looking sadly disappointed in the person saying such nonsense. Logically let look at the gem of a statement: God helps those who help themselves. I' m not sure how grounded in logic you are; however, that statement if taken at fact means - don' t bother God with whatever your trying to fix, do it yourself. The last thing people who are getting their rear-ends kicked is an overtly religious reminder based on Puritan ethics gone overboard that the Jehovah God is going to punish them for their wicked ways if their not out working 24 x 7 to find a job. That' s malarkey and superstitious bs at least and falsely pedantic at worst. And yes I did talk to God today, he was getting some rays out at the pool while talking with the cabana girl making him a pina colada. It was a rather interesting discussion about the meaning of life and modern day existentialism. Unfortunately I was on my way to work and couldn' t stop to chat. I' m basically in the same boat you' re in. I' ve still got several weeks of unemployment and have been sending resumes like crazy. I' m 51 years old and a SALT Tax professional (sales & use; excise tax; franchise tax; and property tax), which it seems that the SALT tax field has pretty much dried up. Yes, I may wind up having to lease my home or sell my home (if I can do it). The problem I' m going to run into, is no matter where I go, because I don' t have corporate income tax experience, its going to be rather difficult to find a job in SALT. I' m hoping to transition into Income Tax. Make sure you have a good source of networks, friends, etc. Keep your living expenses low. As far as the bills go, you' ve got to have a roof over your head, some mode of transportation, and food. If you' ve got credit card debt, let it go, as the necessity expenses must be dealt with first. Check to see if you can do some temp or consulting work as well.
It's the dang Puritan work ethic. It gets my hackles up, too, and creates confusion on internet boards. "God helps those who help themselves" is, when used appropriately, a way for the well-meaning to help the downtrodden to start empowering themselves. When used inappropriately, the same saying is a way for the holier-than-thou to foist a Social Darwinist agenda on those who cannot defend themselves. I think that lately, the latter misinterpretation has been quite prevalent in the United States. That's the part that makes me sad. That, and the fact that work itself is, in the confines of what we mean by it today, and as far as I can tell, an evil, in the more abstract moral sense. But that's a different issue. | |
