No End in sight

So I'm fairly new at the Monster blogging thing... so bear with me on this one.

I'm in such a difficult situation right now and no idea what direction to go in.  First let me start off with my background.  I have a degree in visual communication with a concentration in graphic design.  Had I known that it's near impossible to get a job in the field i would have studied something else.  Every company wants someone with 3 + years experince and a lot more knowledge of programs in web then I can unfortunetly offer.  So therefore no jobs for me.  On the rare occasion i did find something they would only pay minimum wage, which even at the time couldn't pay the bills.

Now fast forwarding to more of a present day and several jobs later, I sort of fell into the hospitality industry.  I found out the hard way it's a very cut throat industry as well.  During this time I found myself to end up at my current job.  I honestly can not stand this job even slightly anymore. I find myself getting more and more irrated as each day passes by.  Now the hotel I work at was a very rundown hotel when i first started there.  The owning company put some money in and somewhat fixed it up, otherthings they merely put band-aids on them.  With everything that is wrong with the building they feel it doesn't impact people from staying there.  Now how wrong they are with that concept.  I sincerely doubt anyone would want to stay at a 3.5 star hotel, that has low water pressure, no hot water, half renovated rooms, no decorations ANYWHERE in the building, stained ceiling,.... the list could go on forever.  This however is not  problem in their eyes.  On the employee side.... Every employee is under paid and under appreciated.  You expected to work extra hours with no extra pay.  I've never seen such disregard to peoples well being.

So moving on in my series of venting...  I'm put into a difficult situation right now.  I'm getting married in less then a year so my income goes towards help paying for the wedding.  My fiance just moved out of the US to Puerto Rico for a job that she has aquired.  So knowing after I get married I will be moving down to Puerto Rico with her makes a new job move pretty difficult for me.  I don't want to "stick it out" at my current place, and I'm having a lot of difficultly finding another job right now.  I've networked so much and no one can seem to help me on this.  I have even began to look in Puerto rico for jobs... but that's another problem all to itself since i only speak english and don't know any spanish.  So looking for a job down there is a little more difficult for me.  I'm at a loss with no direction, no motivation and no will to deal with this anymore.

Thanks for listening

Well unless you've got a fairy godmother handy, you have to suck it up and make your current job work, at least until you find something else.  Have you looked at temp work and freelancing?  Perhaps you could string together enough to keep you going until you make your move to Puerto Rico.

If you're going to be living in Puerto Rico, you absolutely have to study Spanish now!  What on earth are you waiting for?  You're going to be completely unemployable there otherwise.  You need a heavy duty course that will get you up to at least a conversational level before your move.  You may want to look at things like this.  http://www.rosettastone.com/personal/languages/spanish-latin-america/level-1-2-3  It isn't cheap, but this is a serious investment in your future and your marketability in the place you're going to live.  This is a lot more important than $500 worth of flowers or decor at the wedding.

I found 3 jobs like this surfing Monster for Graphics and Puerto Rico --

http://jobview.monster.com/getjob.asp?JobID=62233793&JobTitle=Spec%2c+Business+Solutions-STO000AGP&q=graphic&sid=75&brd=1&cy=us&vw=b&AVSDM=2007-10-09+06%3a06%3a00&pg=1&seq=2

Perhaps you could find a job with Office Max or a similar company here that has offices in PR too.  Then, you could make a transfer when you make your move instead of completely starting from scratch.  Try Kinkos and places like that.  Try American companies that are large enough to have a graphics department and do work in PR.
