THE CAVEMAN IS GONE!That's right. I am not kidding. This is a sad, sad time in my life and a blow that I may not recover from. Those Geico commercials were so clever and creative because of his presence. I loved watching him. He was the best; however, for some unknown reason he disappeared and I have not seen him for weeks. They've replaced him with ordinary boring commercials with the exception of one that features old advertisements of "Chatty Cathy," a talking doll that was popular in the seventies, I think. Are there any support groups for people struggling with this terrible loss? I need help!
Bunzo
I feel your pain, Bunzo. I especially love the one where The Caveman is at his therapist's office and he gets a call from his mother. Subtle but it cracks me up every time. I don't know why.
Seriously - I wonder what happened and why? This was such a clever commercial. There are a few others commercials that are priceless including the Swiffer Sweeper and the TV Boss commercials. http://www.swiffer.com/swiffer/en_US/sweeper.do In case there are some people who are not familiar with the Swiffer commercials, the old-fashioned mop or broom (not the Swiffer) is put on trial in a courtroom. In another one the old-fashioned broom or mop is sitting in a chair in the office of the boss while being told that "he" is being fired. In another commercial "he" is propped up against a corner wall while the lady of the house and her mother are talking about "his" poor performance. In case there are some people who are not familiar with the TV Boss commercial, a few pathetic and raggedy television characters are lounging on chairs in someone's living room. The lady of the house tells them that they are being "blocked" and they are surprised and dismayed. She goes into a few details about why she's "blocking" them and then leaves abruptly while they are still sitting there trying to figure out why! These comments sound really silly until you view the commercials! The guy who used to be the Dell spokesman was just great. He disappeared after a pretty long run. I am going to find their Websites and post them.
Bunzo Bunzo,
Last I heard, they were supposed to be coming out with a t.v. series based on the Geico caveman. I think it's supposed to be part of the upcoming Fall season(?) However, I never watch tv... The guy who used to be the Dell spokesman was just great. He disappeared after a pretty long run. He disappeared due to a drug bust.
Tess Oh Bunzo, You do not know of real grief. One of the most crushing blows to my existence came about when the rat bastids at Budweiser demoted Frankie and Louie, the swamp creatures and without notice, changed their beer ads. They were far superior to the Bud frogs and vastly underrated. Even the radio ads were completely captivating and memorable. My heart still skips a beat when I hear someone say, "Never send a ferret to do a weasel's job." Sheer poetry. Bunzo, to this day I miss them deeply. I will say here and now that I would even go so far as to buy Bud beer if it would bring them back and I don't even drink beer. The memory of Frankie and Louie is intoxicating enough... Let me tell you what real grief is. It's playing back (in my mind) the Diet Coke commercial with Lucky Vanous, The Construction Guy, and remembering how short a time those abs and shoulders brought us an appreciation for...er, whatever product he was drinking. Was he drinking anything? I forget.
I did get a chuckle out of the TV Boss commercial with the mom and the mob boss guy: Mom: "Well, remember last week when you hit Vinny in the head with a shovel?" Mob Boss laughs, then says with a straight face: "I do not recall that." Mom: "Of course not." Made me laugh every time. You know who the person who played the Therapist in the Gieco commercials is , right?
Of course! Talia Shire. I love an actor with a sense of humor. | |
