Oprah Today

Michael Moore, Dr. Linda Peeno and Steve Skvara are Oprah's guest on today's program.

Check your local listings for time and channel.

Oprah's book list propelled book sales into the stratosphere.  She has the influence to do the same for healthcare reform.

This movement is gaining more momentum every day.  The horror stories of persons denied care because they don't have insurance OR the insurance company won't pay mount daily.

Dr. Peeno blew the whistle on managed care more than a decade ago.  Appearing  before Congress she outlined the profits over patients mentally rampant in the medical industry.

Steve Skvara spoke at the first Democratic presidential debate. A retired union worker he can't afford health insurance for his wife.  He asked "how did this happen and what are you going to do about it?"

Michael Moore the maker of SICKO is a person with a vision and camera who is really trying to make positive change in this country.

It should be a very interesting program.

Catch it if you can.

Let me add just one observation. I believe Mr. Moore could have chosen a better title for his movie than "sicko."

The term does terrible harm to those suffering from some form of mental illness and is widely used to describe the emotionally challenged.

I believe SICKO was chosen exactly because it elicits strong emotions.

He's referring to the system as being SICKO, not the people who need healthcare.  And, it sure applies.

Yes; however, his detractors would say he is a "sicko."

It's just some terminology, Emil.  I agree with MP!

It was a great and eye-opening program which we recorded.

Bunzo

Bunzo,

Weren't you amazed at the clueless-ness of the healthcare industry person.  She is strictly a lobbyist and, as Michael showed, had few facts to support her position.

I was really amazed no one took her to task when she talked about arranging bone marrow transplants.  She sure didn't stand up an offer to help the young man who was profiled on the show.

I hope Oprah does follow up programs, preferably with fewer commercials as they really interrupted the flow.

They say 20,000,000 people watch Oprah.  Be nice if they called Congress and DEMANDED universal coverage for all Americans.  Or email:  www.Congress.org

What I hope everyone who watched the show understands is that for the cost of 9 months of the Iraq War we could have a healthcare policy that provided basic care for all.

Yes!  She was clueless all right.  I think she was in over her head and appeared a bit overwhelmed.

What I did not know was that the politicians have been trying to fix our healthcare system since the days of Teddy Roosevelt - a hundred years ago now.

There were so many things worth commenting on - like the fact that we should not use the term, "socialized medicine."  That is a terribly negative term.

I wish I could remember all the details.

Perhaps some people watched the show and changed their minds completely in our favor.  Oprah admitted that she had been ignorant and was mainly concerned about her own healthcare insurance needs.

We will see what happens!

To everyone who viewed the show:  Please comment about her show on this Thread.
