career changeI graduated with with a degree in graphic design about three years ago. I am not really happy with what I am doing. And from what I have read the future does look too good for graphic designers. So, I am trying to break out of that field and into another such as Internet Security, Finance, etc. I am just looking for something else. I am 25 and I need some direction. Any input would be appreciated.
What do you want to do? What can you do well? What is in demand? People often make their career choices and changes based on the third question above, but without the first two, it is a dangerous question. You got into graphic design for a reason, so I am wondering, if you like it, if there is a way you can take a side road that puts you into a related field (i.e. one that uses your skills and experience, but that is more in demand. Web production. Web content management systems. That field is still going strong, I think. Broader skill set, but they often ask for people with some early graphic experience. What else? Do some brainstorming and see what you come up with. Use the job search tool with keywords graphic and see what comes up. I am not saying that you can' t make a bigger jump. You certainly can. But if you try for something like finance, you are basically hanging up your skates and starting a whole new race, one that your competition has been preparing for years, starting in college. If it what you really want, then let us know. | |
