Dad starting online drafting edu programMy dad is in his forties has recently signed up for Penn Foster' s online Career Diploma program for Drafting with AutoCAD, which lasts for 30 months. He has been working as a server in a resutaurant for a long time and just decided he needed a career change. He says in the past he has had a real interest in architecture but never got a chance to do anything with it, so that' s why he' s trying this online course. He' s still open to other new careers so I was just wondering if this was a right move for him, and if after finishing 2.5 years worth of drafting and AutoCAD with Penn Foster he' ll be able to get a real drafting job, or if he' ll be just wasting his time and $1650 required for the program. Has anyone else had any experiences with online career diplomas? Also, is drafting a worthwhile job for him to pursue? Any drafters here who have used AutoCAD?
Tell your dad not to go with an online program (especially PennFoster). Those types of programs are usually for-profit and notaccredited. If he wanted to continue on to study for a bachelor'sdegree, the credits would probably not transfer, either. He'd bemuch better off going to a community college instead where he could gethands-on experience and guidance from live people. Learningsoftware applications online is not like taking a philosophy courseonline. I don't recommend it at all. Hope this helps. | |
