Use IT with other SkillsI was recently let go due to staff cuts after 16 years with an engineering company. I worked in IT primarily in Wintel network administration. Though I liked my job, I might also have an oppertunity here to look in slightly different directions. In addition to a BS in Electrical Engineering and lots of experience writing company policies, administrating the network, leading colloration teams, etc. I also enjoyed teaching classes to both new users and demoing software/hardware to engineering teams. I've recieved VERY positive reviews for my classes. I am a certified Toastmaster and was President of our company's Toastmaster Club for a year. SOooo, I can be technical and install hardware/software, like working with people, like presenting to people, have Project Manager skills (though no certifications), and I like working with my hands. And with 3 kids and a suburban morgage, I need to make a decent buck. What JOB does this translate to? I've been putzing around with keyword searches and nothing has really jumped out. I need a job ASAP so I will of course consider a traditional IT job - but I would like more. MAYBE ideal: working for a technical firm and be in charge of putting on demos/road shows for a product. However being active with 3 children plus community volunteering that I do, I don't want to be gone all the time. Any good sites that let you put in you strengths and spits out a job description? :) Project Management. As I suggested to another user you should try hooking up w/ tech recruiters as well and let THEM tell you what they have. They can at times have jobs not posted on job boards yet due to their relationships w/ their clients. Try Dice (sorry Monster) and Monster. Create and refresh your profile daily. The most recent profiles get seen first, trust me, I used to be a recruiter and we used both of these services. Get to know these recruiters and keep their emails. Last month I had a recruiter call me about a job that I went and interviewed for. I didn' t get that job but I got another that paid much more than the initial one I didn' t get. The real point though is that the recruiter who contacted me was someone I worked with almost 4 years ago! | |
