Non sitting jobs

Anyone know of any careers for women that do not involve sitting all day long and staring at a computer all day long...Its 4:20 and I am totally lethargic from this.

Women can enter any of the same careers as men, except that of "sperm donor."

Your gender doesn' t matter nearly as much as your education, training, skills, abilities, knowledge, interest and experience.

Honestly, if you want a job working in construction or on a loading dock or in in police or firefighting or whatever - Go For It! (none of those are sit-down jobs, and there are women in all those fields ... in fact our local paper just featured a story on the area' s first women fire chief in a sizeable city ... she' s been a firefighter for 20 years and is very widely respected in the department, not as a "woman firefighter" but as an experienced firefighter)

Other jobs that don' t involve sitting: any kind of outdoor work, sales, teaching, medical professions, good grief, the jobs that don' t involve sitting at a computer are too numerous to list.

What kind of work do you want to do, and what kind of education or training do you have (or are willing to get)?

I know exactly what you mean.  I just quit a job that entailed sitting behind TWO monitors and answering inquiries/complaints ALL day long.  I just can' t do it any longer, just like you.  So  I feel your (pain) eyestrain and butt stiffness among other things.  Go to your local employment office and there are so many websites describing job types.  I am now 54 and not getting any younger, just better and wish the best for you.  You are not alone in the "I don' t want to sit at a stinking desk all day long" club.

Hi- I have been in a non-sitting job for 20 years... its called nursing.... I highly recommend it-- there are many different types of work you can do and of course the demand is high and will only get higher.. good pay too.

I am trying to leave the profession however (which is why i' m on career changers) because I just need a change.... I' m trying to get into a very competitive field and its been tough going but I"m not giving up yet.

Til I get my dream job, I' m still taking care of adorable little premature babies who are just too cute!!

Sitting at a desk can be so boring and unfilling!

Depending on what you currently do and your education level, there may be several options for you that won't necessarily mean investing in a whole new degree or career change.  There's business development (which can be in many forms, tangible and intangible - being a job developer is great fun....I network with local businesses to create job opportunities and internships for college students), recruiting (attending job fairs - also very fun), training (giving presentations to audiences of various sizes), college admissions (travel to high schools to recruit students)...you get the idea.  I hope that helps!

I so hear you about sitting in front of a computer all day!  I have a new position in a law firm as a foreclosure paralegal. I hate it! I hate "cubicle life" I hate secretary spread..lol  My former job I was on the road all day (lived in my car) doing research at various locations. I  have been at my job only 4 month and am trying to hold out for something better.  Just want to say I sympathize and hear you! I had a retail job i loved  too, but money was awful.  I was on my feet all day and got a workout and dealt with people!  loved it! I am a people person not a computer drone! I'd love to hear suggestions from anyone on this, as well...

I have nothing against people in the legal field who prefer to stay away from the more controversial side of the industry, but, quite frankly, foreclosure and construction defect law is boring. It isn't that you are a computer drone in legal offices, it is that you are in foreclosure.

If you want to stay with legal issues, try something with a little bite to it, like criminal or many types of civil law. Working in a criminal practice, you have the opportunity to go to the jail and interview potential clients, do research in a law library, go to depositions, go to court.

Yes, our Legal Assistants and Secretarys do all these things. In fact, most law offices prefer that their staff be involved in the cases because the more eyes that are seeing the case, the broader the scope of our defense. With two or more people listening to a client or witness or other individual involved, each person can hear something that the other has missed. Notes can be compared after and a bigger picture can be formed.

I have a sitting job too taking calls for a company that enrolls clients into a debt management plan. Clients are sometimes rude and you find out that adults do not understand how to manage finances and they do not  understand how credit card companies work. The job is depressing. It is the worst job that I have ever had in my life and I have been working there for 4 years. I even had back surgery last year after sitting on that chair all day. I decided that I have to make a change and I enrolled at UMUC to complete by bachelor degree. My major is criminal justice and I love the class. I have began trying to make contact with people that work in the criminal justice field and hopefully I will be out of my current hell hole into something more satisfying and rewarding.

I completely feel your pain...i sit behind 3 monitors providing phone tech support to complaining users...very frustrated..we're totally micromanaged and its pretty unbearable at this point. I'm interested in getting involved in training and running seminars, but really haven't been able to find anything on it. I have experience and a degree, so i would imagine its now about trying to get in the door.
