need a changeI was wondering if someone could give me some advise on, how do you change careers without the educational background? I am very interested in the financial field but cannot find any work because I do not have a college degree, I have tried to apply for entry level position just to get my foot in the door but I still have not had any luck. What kind of financial field? Sometimes, requirements are set in stone and there isn' t a way around. I don' t if that is the case here. So, under the assumption that it is possible, what can you do? Don' t rely just on applications: Try and talk to people. Do your homework first. Figure out exactly where the spot is that you have both the most chance of getting into and succeeding in (assuming you would use it as a steping stone) See if you can organize some informational meetings. 20 min meetings to really learn about the business. These might lead somewhere. A human connection and referral is one proven way of overcoming the education barrier. Demonstrate your interest and passion and commitment for this. Other types of training you can take? Leverage your other experience. Perhaps you can do a better job of selling the experience you do have. How is it transferable and relevant. Focus on the competencies required. Show them how you meet those competencies, if indeed you do. Basically, through all of this, demonstrate that you understand the work and what it is going to take. Another strategy is to land a job that sets you up to get into your target field. | |
