After 10 years within the publishing industry as a full-time Graphic Designer for a daily morning newspaper (with some freelance writing opportunities on the side for the newspaper), I have reconsidered my career path and want to transition to a full-time writing career. I am focusing on the nonprofit industry where a company's focus is environmental conservation and animal welfare. My resume and cover letter has been updated to reflect this goal. I have applied for many positions through Monster, and even uploaded my resume to the website www.SoloGig.com to apply for several opportunities posted at that site. However, I have received not contacts from these positions.

Has anyone made a similar transition? What steps did you take to make a successful transition?
