security clearances

Hi,

I am an "older" job seeker.  I have been out of the upward motion of technology for some time now for various reasons.  I was once a Navy cryptology type with a very high end clearance.  My last update was in the 1980's and has, obviously, lapsed since that time.  My problem is that I am still considered able to do the work that I did in civilian life (repair, test, re-engineer) but I need a clearance to get an interview.  I recently had an on going contact with Grumman aerospace in CA, until the subject came up of a SSBI.  How do you get a clearance reinstated to be able to apply for work somewhere worthwhile ?   I'm tired of minimum wage retail positions.

When I started in defense, I obtained a secret clearance through the employer.  When you leave the job, the employer takes it away since their limited .I have seen job postings that say "the ability to get a clearance."  The government just don't hand these out like driving license.

Monster had a article on this, but can't find it at the moment.  I read their good for two years after leaving employment. Call a defense contract like Lockheed Martin.
