Move from IT to Finance fieldI am current a project manager in a global IT firm with about 8 years of experience. I am planning to go for MBA to broaden my skills. I intend to do my MBA in Finance and Economics and plan to go in Tech sector companies but in non-IT/Business role. Can someone here tell me what kind of job openings are available for this kind of profile? Also what would be a good place to start for the kind of jobs available in Finance? Thanks You should start looking at entry-level Finance jobs now to find out if you even like that area before you invest 2 years and tens of thousands of dollars on it. Not to mention that you're probably going to have some amount of trouble switching from IT to Finance, so it will pay to start now in any sort of position you can get and build while you're in school.

What kind of entry level finance jobs will be good to start with? Any certified courses that you recommend will help bridge the gap ?
Your background is actually a very common one for aspiring MBAs and I see lots of people with a similar background do a quant-focused MBA and then get picked up as part of the MBA campus recruiting efforts as a Financial Analyst or Business Analyst. So, I actually don't think you are off base. However, I also see a lot of the above, without careful investigation as to whether this an exciting and smart path personally. So, do some homework first. Talk to the career centres of the schools you are considering. Who recruits from them, what kinds of roles, and what career paths emerge from those roles. Ian Christie Career Changers Coach Hi, your situation is reverse than my situation. I am in heatlhcare field and would like to go into IT field whereas you would like to go from IT to finance. Good Luck.
Why do you want to go to IT from healthcare? Any specific reasons ?
I have a degree as well I have received additional trainning. I would like to utlize my skills and health industry hands-on experience. but surrounding people do want to take a risk while hiring me with non-IT background. i have a master degree in medical field that is not known in my presently live in country.i entered in to the health care management graduate diploma recently to have a job in medical administration field but i always worry to find a job since when i look in job ads in this field ,they always require professional degree in departements and several years experience in coordinating........ as my professional master and work experience is not valuble here, i wonder where i should start as an entry level to attain experience for future? do you have any advice to help me ?
It is interesting to see others transitioning out of IT. I left ITafter 2.5 years and am graduating from nursing school in about 7 weeks. After experiencing what I experienced I don't quite understand what theIT job hype was all about; I presume in the mid-1990s it was the highsalaries that blinded people and made them ignorant of certain otherissues (I never made a lot as a website designer; started at 33K andfinished at 40K workig 40 hrs/week). I still design websites just like just about everybody who has access to the web :) but I'll never work for that industry again even if they pay me for sitting around, browsing the web and eating all day. That industry radiates negative energy, deadly negative energy. | |
