Resigned from employment
I was layed off from a supervisory position in july of 07 I took the summer off and accepted employment at another firm in late october 07. By december I realized I had made a hugh mistake accepting the position and resigned. Do I include this short term employment in my history on the application process. I am inclined not to, as I feel it represents an immediate red flag for prospective empoyers. I have left this off my current resume which is in circulation. I had an immediate interview and I told them about this unfortunate situation and was told before I left, that the interview process was over for me. I dont want to lie about my history but feel it will be a negative , that will prevent me from moving forward. Advice????? List it as a contract assignment. Most employers can only verify dates and position. The odds are getting a permanent job are tough these days, anyway. Get a contract or temporary assignment, then go from there. Something like that happen to me, but was unfairly terminated. That is what an employment agency suggested and it works. Say "finished assignment." You can look while on assignment. As a Career Counselor, number one rule I teach my students is, if you worked there for less than a year, I would rather them not put it on their resume. However, this is with exception. Look at the various ways you can format your resume, that will doesn't put emphasis on the length of stay, but rather the experience you received while working. Look at this sample resume for contruction. Notice that the focus is on experience, with no objective. Power of what you see. If they see more of your experience rather than time on the job, their focus is on the experience. So experience is what you're selling to them. Don't include short jobs. Tell them that you were in transition at that time, you're not lying, but rather expressing a deeper meaning to "this wasn't the job for me." Or "I made a mistake and resigned." Hope this helps.
