full to part timeHoping someone might have some advice....After 18+ years in the world of non-profit fundraising and management, I am looking to change careers - or at least change focus. I am burning out on fund-raising and begging people for money! I would like to go back to school to become either a school librarian or an accountant. My current job is not condusive to going back to school, due to the extended hours and stress associated with it. I had an initial phone interview today with an organization looking for a regional manager to work with their member chapters, helping to plan meetings, networking opportunities, trainings, etc. It sounds like something that would be a good fit for my background and interest level. The job, however, is part time, working from home. Perfect for someone wanting to go back to school. Here's my question...I know I can't expect to make the same salary in a part time position that I'm making now. How do I figure out what a comparable salary would be for this position? I've tried looking at salary websites for help, but because this is a specialized position within an association, I can't really find anything comparable.
There is great variance in what Professional Associations are paying these days. In many cases, Associations have taken on bigger roles, with more revenue sources and constituents to serve, and with that, they have had to recruit and retain more senior people. I can think of examples in my community where the Exec Director in one association is making 80K and in another close to 200K. Not exactly what this job is, but perhaps speaks to the kind of work that would be a fit for you. NFP to Association work can be a natural. Often, your network can be a source of information. What are other people making in similar roles and with similar levels of experience? When the databases fail, this is the best source of info. You can cross-reference the job type and level on a full-time basis, and then discount it for PT. You can look at a service like monster.salary.com to see whether they have any data for a) the org type b) the role type. You could simply get a sense of what you value your time at and see whether this compares. And of course, you can ask what their range is and then plug that into your equations. Good luck!
