New to IT
I am currently seeking a job in the IT industry. However, I have no "real world" experience I have a lot of "lab"/"home" experience. Almost all employers want 2-5 yrs. .... my question is if no one will give you the experience what is the best way to get in??
There are a million of things you can do in IT so it would be helpful if you told us what kind of IT experience you've had at home. I'm an ex-website designer who switched to nursing in 2004. In website design anybody can publish websites on the Internet so even if every employer in every corner of the world ceased hiring-even then I would be able to continue publishing websites. In fact, most website designers don't need employers to have experience-they gain experience and build their resume by building websites on issues that fascinate them the most. Such websites tend to turn out great.
Right now all my focus is in cisco networking, and PC hardware. I have experence building pc's and small home and office networks Perhaps you need to get a job that pays your bills whileyou're gaining experience in CISCO stuff and taking additional classes but Ithink your case is so specific you need to talk to some guys with networkingbusiness knowledge. One thing is for sure-gone are the days when incompetentpeople could talk their way into IT jobs but that's a good thing because thatwas harming the industry and cost the customers wasted money...and contributedto the layoffs and bankruptcies that followed. Well, I have my A+, and Network +, ive taken cisco classes and taken the exam but just missed the passing grade (less than 50 points, on a 1000 point scale..less than 5%). Its not that i know nothing and just trying to talk my way into a IT job i do have documented knowledge, just no one wiling to give me that chance
Are you currently employed? Does your current employer have an IT group? What are the chances of moving laterally into that group? I would start networking and hob-nobbing with your current employers IT people. If your current employer doesn't have an IT department find a new employer that does.
i currently work a construction job with NO IT division. im looking to get into a new company at any level | |
