Please Offer Advice
Currently I work for a well known retailer as a Sales Manager making 58,000 a year including stock and bonus. However recently there has been a change in my family life which does not allow me to work a rotating schedule that consists of Sunday through Saturday. 6am-4pm, 9am-7pm, and 12pm-10pm shifts which comes with this job. I have established myself within this company and am very well known. There could be potential to move into a Home office position outside of the retail stores, however that would add a very long commute. My resume speaks to my success as I have performed in the top 10% since I started with this company. With no college education behind me and being 25 I am not sure what opportunity's are out there. Any advice of suggestions would be very helpful.
Well, it sounds like, at 25, you are off to a solid start. What's next? Well, sales management is something you can readily transfer. If you have a solid track record, then it will read well on a resume. So, I suggest developing a resume that features that track record, and steady upward progression. Use language that makes it less retail and more generic. And then explore the postings. Talk to your network and start to develop a picture of what might be out there for you. A bigger question is what direction would you like to go 2-3 steps down the road. Sales can be a great career. Or it can be a stepping stone to something else...marketing, general management....many many diffrerent things. What are your thoughts? From a life stage perspective, there are early career jobs that are designed to take advantage of that hunger to prove your abilities but that are less attractive after you have done it a while or family life evolves.
