Need a change, but dont know what

I currently work in the hospitality industry, and I am getting tired of having to hold up my 40+ hours a week at my desk, and then all the after hours time I am required to put in unpaid. I get paid an average wage plus bonuses, but our goals went up tremendously this year, so a bonus is probably not going to happen. I have a Bachelor's in Biology, but it has been over 10 years since I graduated. I am willing to go back to school, but I am having a hard time deciding what I want to do.

My biggest issue is that I work to live, and no matter what the job has been, it's still a job. If I won the lottery, I would not work. I can be happy doing a multitude of things - it's just deciding what. Since I don't get paid a whole lot now, I don't want to take a pay cut, and if I am going to have to take out a ton of loans for school, I want to make sure the increase of pay justifies the cost. Since I am older, I also don't want to go to school for longer than a couple years. I'm full of caveots, aren't I?

So careers on the short list right now are Nursing, physical therapy, marriage and family therapy, and accounting. I have also considered going back to being an executive assistant (I was the assistant to a Senior VP for four years after working for other executives for a few years before that), but I can't imagine getting very far in a career doing that work.

Don't take yourself back to school.  Take yourself to the school's career counselor. They can do testing with you to determine what your skills, experience, interest and abilities line up with and suggest related careers you may not have considered.  I would avoid going back to school unless you have a very specific plan in mind because as you know, you're going to come out with a lot of debt on the far end.  You might need a class or two, but a whole new degree or certificate program shouldn't be a choice unless you're really passionate about the topic and sure that you're going to work in that field when you're done.

If the school career counselor won't see you, check your phone book for one.
