New opportunities in commercial HVACI have worked in the commecial HVAC industry for the last few years. I have worked as both an HVAC maintenance/ repairman and worked in test and balance. I have my refrigeration license and a bachelors degree from a four year college. I would like to stay in the commercial HVAC industry but I would like to move to a new job within a large coorporation that would offer better pay and benefits. I have three questions:
1. What field within the commercial HVAC industry offers the best pay and job advancement? 2. What skills, education would I need to pursue this career? 3. Are there any corporations within the HVAC industry that offer promising training programs?
I cannot offer specific insights into the guts of HVAC companies, although like any sizeable company, sales/business development, management of distribution channels, marketing, human resources, finance, area / region management, manufacturing, quality, installation and product management are all predictable functions within the business. However, I'd like to suggest that you are asking the questions backwards. Based on your natural abilities, your skills, and your interests, which directions seem like the best fit for you? Pursuing a career change solely based on logic is a bit dangerous. You will be a better candidate if you are aiming for something that fits you and your background and builds on it. In fact, you should be using your hands-on experience as a selliing point. Go the job board and type in keyword HVAC and see what the ranges of roles are out there.
