Career changeHi I have been working in the area of finite elements #### and now with the growing intrestet in renewable energy area, I am planning to switch to Solar industry. I am an Engineer with masters degree and just wanted suggetions as to how can I approach this career change. I have started with reading books on solar panel and other PV solar related stuff but then I do not have any experience in this area. Any suggestions are welcome.

These Up and Coming areas are often intriguing and exciting, but do not necessarily have a lot of jobs attached to them. So, you need to look into it. Start building a target list of organizations playing in the Solar industry field. They might include manufacturers, sales/installation/service companies, as well as associations/lobby groups/consulting companies. Look at those companies and see if and what kinds of jobs are being posted. Start to develop a sense of what you can offer them in terms of your technical, organizational and business experience and skills. Start contacting them. Try and have informational interviews. Take people out for coffee. You will start to develop a sense of whether there is a place for you and if so, what it is. At the same time, maybe expand your focus to include other alternative energies. Good luck! Ian Christie Career Changers Coach | |
