Finance to ...

I am a recent college graduate (July '07) with a degree in Business Management and an emphasis on Human Resources. I am currently working for a Fortune 50 financial company and cannot stand what I do. I've been on the job for 6 months and have been looking for something else the entire time. Here is why I am having such a problem with my job: I cold-call people to solicit business, and I am pressured with ridiculous sales goals. My work environment isn't so bad and I enjoy those I work with, I just can't stand the job. From what I've read, I'm not getting paid the national average for college grads but that's another topic altogether. Is it too early to try and find something else?

I'd rather not work in finance anymore unless it is something involving payroll. My dream job would be to work in payroll for a Major League Baseball team. If anyone could provide some insight concerning opportunities in baseball or anywhere else that involve a payroll job, please reply! Thanks!
Hello,

How can I help?  I am a recruiter, in Business Development and read your posting.  How can I help?

Warmest regards,
Sharon

Well Sharon, I appreciate your reply! I'm not sure exactly what it is that I want to do. I don't mind working in finance, but I can't stand cold-calling people. I thought about switching to a bank but I don't know that I'll be able to find a position that will pay $35-40K per year with my limited (6 months) experience. Do you know what positions banks will hire for? Can you start above the teller position? Thanks for any and all advice!
Cold-calling is a very specific kind of job function, and if it isn't your thing. Then you'd better find something else.

I believe that there are entry level roles in payroll. As you work, you might need to look at taking human resources courses towards certification in HR as part of industry standard professional development. A good place to look around is
