Hi all,

Has anyone out there completed a PhD while working in management in industry and decided to transition out of management (let's say "middle management")?  I mean transition to a career where your expertise was more important, and somewhat and the leadership less?

If so, how did you fare and how did you do it?

Do you always have to be ready to take a huge pay cut in most instances?  The PhD won't pick up any of the slack you get from losing experience in your realm?
