Waiting list nursing school

I have a passion for nursing, I have applied to several nursing school, the only thing is that I am been told that there is a waiting list. I cant understand why there is a shortage and there is a waiting list to get into the program.
Yes, there are many areas where shortages exist.

One of the key bottlenecks is simply that there aren't enough seats / teachers / training opportunities avaiable to keep up with demand. New schools do get created, but unlike a solely book-learned degree/diploma, a nursing student needs practicum time. And that means, partnering with hospitals, and of course, there are constraints on that side.

Have you set yourself up as a qualified candidate for the school? I.e. done everything you can to ensure that you are accepted? What about other schools?

The associate nursing programs do have a long waiting list.  Try a bachelor nursing program at a university near you.  By the time you get done waiting for a position to open up in the associate programs you will have finished your degree.  I was working on my MSN in nursing education until I found out that most of the positions are part-time and the pay is less than what I make now as a bedside nurse.

The current shortage is real and wil continue to get worse over the next 10-15 years.  Nursing schools are experiencing their own shortage with faculty!  I know that it doesn't make sense, but until the entire system is transformed, I am afraid there will still be waiting lists!

My advice to you is to apply to more than one school.  Many schools admit twice a year, so if you don't get in, apply again for the next semester.  Make sure you have all of your pre-reqs in order.  Ask the school why you didn't get in, so you can ensure you have the right resume!

I started my career in the late 70's when there was a shortage and was wait listed.  I received a call a week after school started and was told a slot opened up so I got in!

Explore accelerated programs, private, public, be persistent and don't give up!  We need you!
