career adriftI feel lost, confused and cannot find direction. I was in the IT industry for 16 yrs before the crash at the end of '99. I worked on short term contracts until they dried up and ended up in the auto industry. I enjoyed the customer interaction but did not get the overall satisfaction. Attempted to get back into the industry but was told I am obsolete, which I understand as I use to take two courses min per year. But now I do not know what to do, what type of jobs I qualify for or even what to look for... I know this is very little info but could use some direction.
What have you been doing in the auto industry? Have you obtained any supervisory, management, or project management experience / skills? Out of all of your experiences and skills, in what area do you feel strongest + most interested in + sense would be in most demand? Ian Christie Career Changers Coach I was a Project Manager in the IT industry with my last position as a Director of IT. Before the end of my IT career I had obtained my PMP certification. I currently have about 1 1/2 years as a Finance Manager in the Auto industry. Considering your last question... I most enjoyed working with projects, vendors and customers. As for where my skills are in most demand, I am at a loss. After reading some of the other post, I am not the only ex-IT that is looking to get back into the field but with no current experience. My last IT job ended in June of 2000. So far I have not seen much positive feedback or direction advice. I know that with my background and experience I should be of some value in another field. The question I am asking is where to look.
Have you given thought to Healthcare IT? There's a big demand for PMP certification. You don't necessarily have to have healthcare experience, although that helps quite a bit. Check out this site; it might help give you some ideas. Good Luck to you in your search. | |
