First Job ChangeI recently started my first real job after having graduated from college. I've been at the job for about two months and don't like it at all. Snce I started my job description has changed drastically, thins that were promised me in the interviewing process have not come through, and even parts of my contract have not been even partially fulfilled. I have brought this up numerous times with my boss but have started to lose complete faith because nothing is changing. I feel like I need to stick it ot because it's my first real job and I don't know if I'm ready to stat the job hunt again with so little experience. My question is, how long do I stick this out? I feel like having so much short term experience on my resume (internshps, college jobs, etc.) and then adding a real job that I left after only a few months would reflect poorly on my futurre job prospets and make it difficult when applying for new jobs. Any advice? Since it is your first job, the employer may not want to overwhelm you with too much. Your boss may be waiting until he feels that you can handle more responsibility. Or, he may be a complete jerk who sucked you in with false promises and hopes of succeeding. In either case, you should really try to stick it out for a little longer. At least 2-3 months longer. In the meantime, gather together those points in your contract which you feel are not being fulfilled. Just as a guess, because I have a habit of reading between the lines in contracts, it may state that after you have maintained a certain level on a certain aspect of the job, then you can be trained on another aspect. You may want to consider, in times that are a little slower than usual, if there are any, roaming around and inquiring of co-workers what they are doing and making notes of how it differs from your way of doing things. The next time you approach your boss, have some examples of what you have accomplished and some concrete reasons and proof why you should be able to move into the next phase of your position. | |
