How to proceed

I think I have a complicated issue, and was hoping for some advice from people who may have some experience with or knowledge about the situation...

17 years now with the same company, and not only am I entrenched, I also make a very considerable salary and have somewhat become a jack of all trades, master of some.

My hands are in every phase of the company, though I am mostly an IT guy. I supervise the accounting department and controller to an extent, have full IT authority within the company, develop and enhance programs that the company sells and also develop marketing, both web based and  hard copy, and some supervisory work with various individuals.

Was recently offered the position of CFO/CIO, but it was abruptly rescinded, and my direct supervisor has been a nightmare to work for for the past several years.

Stuck with it cause of the money mostly, and the lack of ability to find any type of headhunter to assist with a job search as well as an incredible lack of response to my resume, which is written well.

The time has come for me to move on, but my enthusiam is hurting and I just have no clue how or where to proceed. My family isnot against moving, so relo is an option, but I don't even know where else to look for headhunters that respond or even for jobs that are looking for someone with my diverse skill set.

I am 42 years old, with a BA in Politics, 20 odd years ago. Most everything else  is self taught except for a few classes here and there. I am a smart, talented individual, but the job search experience has just mortified me.

Anyone? Thanks!
