Move to Negotiator

I am looking to become an entry level corporate negotiator.  I am just looking for some of the things companies look for in becoming a negotiator.  I know that what is looked for company to company will be different, but I'm sure there are a few base things that are looked for on a resume.  Any help is appreciated.

Pardon my ignorance, but, what is a Corporate Negotiator. If I knew, I might be able to offer some insight. However minimal.

Corporate Negotiator

Negotiate small to medium sizecontracts for goods and services that reduce cost and risk. Consult withcustomers and vendors.

           • Collegegraduate with a bachelor's degree or equivalent with a minimum of 2-4 yearswork-related experience, but preferably 4-6 years experience. Basic PC skillsrequired. Ability to work independently and negotiate, persuade, and make quickdecisions under pressure while dealing with conflicting goals and points ofview.

Off the top of my head...

  • contracts
  • proposals
  • conflict resolution competency
  • proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities
  • basic project management
  • strong verbal and written communication skills
  • proven abilility to negotiate
  • and manage relationships
  • ...
Gather several postings / job descriptions together and make notes on what you see.

What would be some areas that you can prove negotiation skill?  I am volunteering at Habitat for Humanity, what else could I do to demonstrate these abilities?

I think the first conflict here is that people that are negotiating contracts really are not entry-level.  Those are jobs you build into over time based on education in business and experience in the contracts department.
