Military to AccountantGood Morning, I have completed four years on active duty in the United States Air Force. I have an Associates Degree in Information Systems Management, a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, 6 credits completed towards my Mater’s Degree in Accounting and a Top Secret SCI security clearance. I completed the first 3 years of my degree while serving on active duty in the United States Air Force and believe that is a testament of my drive and determination. I am always professional, the people I work with are always telling me how great I am and how much I have helped them out, and I like to work.
I thought that it would be easy for me to find a job after I graduated with my undergraduate degree but my job search has been very disappointing. I currently work as an administrative assistant and I DO NOT like my job at all. I am way over qualified for my position and I am under paid.
My goal is to start a career in the Accounting/Finance field but no one will hire me because I don’t have any experience. I apply to about 10-15 Accounting jobs a week and the people that have contacted me want me for other positions. I feel so lost and discouraged at times but that hasn’t stopped me from searching. And it amazes me how many entry level positions require two years experience. I thought that entry level was the bottom of the barrel.
I need help…
Hi Have you received help with your resume ? What are the number of corporations / companies within travelling distance ? I'm in UK - there must be professional Accountancy bodies that advertise posts/jobs. Good luck Snowy56
Hello Snowy56, I live in the DC metro area, there are jobs everywhere...they just require more experience than what I can offer at this time. I've been to the UK, I'd actually like to move there one day but I want to establish my career first. Do you work in the accounting field? Hi Nash_08 Hope you had a good Christmas & New Year's Eve. No - I'm not an accountant in the UK. Work in Procurement/Purchasing at a University but part of the Finance Dept & have worked closely with accountants in a number of sectors in UK. I recognise it is difficult to "break" into another career - but it can be done ! There should be plenty of advice from others on MONSTER - please get in touch with Nash_08 Cheers Snowy56
