Leaving Army

Well my question is, what kind of careers are there out there for an ex soldier? Im a combat soldier 19d Cav Scout. I'm looking to try and get a good job but not really sure what I would qaulify for.
Hey Iraq,

I just had a cousin who applied to law school, but I think the biggest selling point for him was his dedication that he showed while he is a memaber of the national guard and as a reservist in the Army.

I would put your resume together and show how the things you have learned in the service has made you to be the person that a person who does not have military experience cannot be.

Good luck!!

What else did you do besides being a soldier?

MOS, college, other job-related skills??

19 D Cav Scout have my high school dipolma using GI BILL to go back to school. Want to get my bachlers in Business Managment.

I am not sure what kind of civilian jobs could use your scout skills (I guess I could have read the post a little closer), but here is my opinion from having been in your shoes (96B):

Talk to your ACAP folks after you get back from Iraq.  A lot of employers seek out former military members for their dedication, desire, and 'can-do' attitude; but you would have to have a skill related to the job (unless you want to sell insurance).  Get the translation for your civilian-equivalent job skills to use in your resumes, and attend any of the seminars they have on resume writing or interview techniques.  Also, if you have the ability to take a couple of classes while you are still in, do so - especially writing courses (business writing, technical writing, etc.).

Have you thought about being a police officer?  I don't know if you are getting out because you are not happy being a Cav Scout, but I am sure the police force has some positions that could use your abilities.  You could also try any of the contract organizations that would most likely send you right back into Iraq (Blackwater, Brown and Root...).

Have you tried to get a new MOS in the Army?  There are probably several options there as well.  I am sorry to be so generic, but your ACAP folks (and a few Google searches) can help you a lot more than I can.

First off, THANK YOU for your service!

What kind of equipment did you use? Did you use any RFID? Bar Code? Anything to do with logistics? (In other words, getting things/people from one place to another) Logistics and supply chain companies look for military people with RFID experience. You may want to think about this. Best of luck with your search.

I wrote an article on how to create a career-change resume if you're leaving the Army. You can find it at

I hope it helps you!
