Help me help me

Hello all,

I need your advice.  I'm like most of you reading these message.  For almost ten years, I've been employeed at the same organization.  In August of last year I was promoted to a higher paying position.  However, to get this position I had to fight really hard to get it.  I was hit hard with questions from the head boss over a lunch interview.  Needless to say he was not easy on me. Now, I'm considering getting out of the business, tourism to be exact.  I'm really torn about the decision for several reasons. One, my boss will be leaving soon and I don't know if they will consider giving me that promotion due to the hassle of even being in the position I'm in now.  Two, I have managed to bank a lot of annual leave and sick leave, so if I change jobs then I start completely over.  These positions (mine and my boss) requires a lot of travel, which I don't mind but my boss' position is a little more.  They expect that position to attend monthy meetings along with out of state travel.  I'm not interested in doing quite that much travel.  I failed to mention above that these two jobs have a high turnover rate. I'm not sure why our superiors don't see that is is due to all the travel and unwilliness to offer flex-time to us since majority of our travel is on the weekends.

I guess my question(s) are: Am I crazy for wanting to leave?  If I do decide to go for my boss' job, should I tell them how I feel about all the travel?  Or should I just cut my losses and brighten my future?

I'm not that unhappy, comfortable in the position.  However, I'm frustrated with the superiors and their negativity and constant ridicule.

Thanks for your time and advice!
