Earth Sci. Teacher looking to change job

Hi,
I was just seeking advice from anyone who can help.  I am currently an Earth Science teacher and I have decided that this isn't the job for me.  I've spent the last 6 years getting degrees that allow me to teach.  Now what do I do?  I do not have a masters degree in any specific field.  I have no idea what I can do or what employer that would be interested in me.  I know I do love working with children and would like to possibly get into the non-profit field, or something that would allow me to make a child's life better.  Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I have absolutely NO advice for you, but I'm in a similar boat. I left teaching in 2005 and have been drifting about. I was a special education teacher for a number of years, have my credential, and a masters in that field. I have a prior masters in theatre/playwriting, so this is a little like having two noserings, what good does that do? However, I am looking into trying to get into corporate training. This didn't sound appealing to me before, but after a couple of years of temping and working as an administrative assistant, a friend who does this sort of work made the pitch to me. I'm just starting out in that area, but it's an idea for you.

Back when I was teaching a friend told me that many companies often look at teachers with high regard because of their classroom management skills, but I haven't found those high-minded employers yet.

Anyway, I'll be interested in seeing if anyone else has other advice for you.

I'm in the same boat...I taught Kindergarten for 5 years and then quit teaching. I have a Masters in education and Undergrad degree for Education as well. I have been working as an Admin/Office Manager for the past year. I hate my current job because of the way my boss acts (chauvinist, liar, etc). It's so HARD to change careers and make decent money because I have no formal experience and I sometimes think that all my education might be a factor as well.

I'm so frustrated with applying to jobs that are entry-level. I keep trying to apply for something that pays well but it's hard to find someone that will give you a chance to change careers. I have yet to find an employer that values Teachers that are changing careers!

Start researching non-profits that target helping children or maybe contact your local social services office for information about which skills from your teaching job are transferrable to a social services position.

Is it just teaching in that particular subject or age group that you realize you do not like? Check your school system, or those around you, for information on other classes or other ages.

Try to work in a daycare center and find out if that type of "work with children" position is what interests you.

I'm in the opposite boat, shall we say.  20+ years in the corporate world, and I'm "burnt-out".  For the past 2 1/2 years I have taught business courses as a adjunct instructor at a local college.  I've experienced more job satisfaction from this teaching experience than I have in my 20+ years in the corporate world.

Here's my problem.  I can't teach fulltime at the college level (all my contacts tell me that I would need a PhD, I have an MBA in Economics), and I need benefits (2 young children at home), so fulltime adjunct work is out of the question.

I've been trying to find openings as a Business Education teacher at the high school level, without success.  Although I have passed the Praxis Exams for both General Business and Economics (both very high scores), I cannot get certification via the alternate route unless I obtain a teaching position first!  However, I haven't found a school district yet that will hire someone without state certification (NJ).

Any suggestions?

Thank you, in advance
