After using Monster and some local job boards, I found myself having some luck in landing interviews. Some went well and some were even bizarre. One of things that i realized was that I had been applying for jobs where if I would have landed them, I would not have wanted to stay in them fo very long. I looked into taking very assessments, many of which were free and some had costs associated with them. What i learned through trail and error was that you get what you pay for. DUH! Eventually, i came across a website that offered assessments that while on-line, also had real eyes providing analytical interpretations. They also provided a phone interview where we discussed things like preferences and personal orientation. The result of having a real person to engage with in understanding my assessment outputs and my personal motivations was that I was able to do not only a better job of targeting the role I wanted, but I was also able to show my interviewer the qualities that delineated me from other candidates. I GOT THE JOB I WANTED. Thanks to sites like
www.Monster.com, local job Boards and
www.gorillas-gazelles.com, I'm moving on with my life in a direction that makes sense for me. I recommend using career boards and assessments in pursuing your new career.
Most colleges have a career center that can do these assessments for you too. I recommend them!
