Need Application Tips

I plan to do a job search as a experienced professional. As I understand, getting a job is easier if I put a resume on Monster for recruiters to view. But if a recruiter or a recruiting agency directly works for my current employer will that hamper my chances or have a adverse effect on my current job? Should I just apply directly to the company advertisements on their respective websites? Good Advice would be of great help.

Apply on the company's website. If there is an individual recruiter for that position, you will have a better chance of being recognized. I discovered that responding directly to the company or person who advertised the position will have a better response than if you respond through a job site.

I don't know why, it just seemed to me to be that way.

Also, a little personal feedback regarding recruiting, temporary, staffing and other assorted agencies. If you make your resume public, they will contact you and try to convince you that you have the exact skills they are looking for  to fill an position. They will ask you to come in to their offices to fill out paperwork, etc. If you do this, remember, please, that very rarely is the position an actuality.

Many, many, many agencies just want your name on a list of people that they can show the list to a prospective company with the tag line: see how many people we have registered with us? Then they don't contact the individuals on that list. they advertise the job.

Thanks for the above response.

Actually, I always felt if I put my resume for public viewing its faster to get an interview considering that there will be some employers/recruiters who probably never advertise the jobs. Also may be that way I can make my resume available to the companies I don't know.

What should I do if the recruiting agency working with my current employer is good and if I want to change the current employer but want to contact this recruiting agency for jobs in different company? I hope the recruiting agency does not contact my current employer saying that somebody named.... is willing to go for another company than yours.

Could somebody comment on this? Thanks in advance.

3rd party reccruiters / executive search firms can be an important channel of opportunity in a job search. A very important part at some levels and specialities.

Regarding approaching the firm that already does business with your current employer: Don't do it. Focus on others. Their response depends on which industry code of ethics they subscribe to, what kind of contract they have with your company, and frankly, the individual professionalism of the person you talk to. The chances are they are not allowed to "poach" from their client companies. There are many professional recruiting firms, and you should put your emphasis on those.

Oh! Those were all very valuable responses. Thank you very much. I will certainly think over how to approach the next job search based on your comments.
