UBS offer

I just got an offer from UBS for their client services position. I was thinking of doing this position until there is an opening as a financial advisor. In light of the $10 billion in writeoffs, I am kind of worried about the stabilty of the firm. The Investment Banking side is taking the hit not wealth management. I am still worried though. Any thoughts?
If your confident that your going to be successful in your new position, until another one opens up, I would not be worried. We all like winners, and if you have that "can do" attitude, it should not matter.  UBS is a powerhouse, and speaking from experience, you always want to work for a better company then your last.  It sounds like working for UBS might be the largest company you have worked for, so it should make you more marketable later if it turns out that UBS is not a good fit.

Good luck!!
I work at a major university at a medical school. It's one of the best schools in the country. However, it is time to make a career switch. This is my first job. I like it but it isnt what I want for a career. I am kind of scared to leave though. It is sooooo laid back. I work with great people. They pay stinks the benefits are good. The finance industry is having so many problems right now and I am scared to take a leap.....
Time is an expensive comodity.  At some point, you will have to move on unless you want to stay with the university.  At least, you can get some degrees at a great price lol.  However, you will need to move on.  That in mind, employers do not like to see lots of different employers on your resume.  You shouldn't have any more then 3 jobs within a 2 year time, but in the economy that we are in, that is almost impossible.

UBS will have a 401 K and will have a good medical plan that you'll have to buy in to, but at least you'll have some medical coverage.
Can you give us some more info;

1)  How long have you been there?
2)  What do you do?  Why is the client services position a better path to that?  You said you like what you do, but it isn't a career...why not and what career do you want?
3)  Do you know that the client services position will lead to a financial advisor position?

Just trying to help you figure out of the USB position is just "not what I'm doing now" or it's really something you want to do!

My current path would lead me to a PhD in Public Health or Medical School. I do not want either now. I did when I started though.

I am more passionate aboue wealth managment and helping others to understand the importance of $$$. After making some huge mistakes myself, I want to educate as many people so they will not make the mistakes my parents and I made.

I don't have a finance background other than 1 accounting class and some unpaid work experience. The easiest way for me to get in is the CSA position. I could work as a FA at another company but UBS has a GREAT training program that I want to get into.
